Dead of Winter by Darcy Coates
The third book I’ve read from this author and it did not disappoint.
A good suspense novel to read in the winter.

Reading 'Dead of Winter' by Darcy Coates was an intense experience for me, especially given its perfect winter setting. The story revolves around a group of strangers who get snowed in at a remote cabin, and from the very start, the tension is palpable. I was immediately drawn into the panic and suspense as the characters face the brutal death of their guide and realize someone among them—or perhaps an unknown assailant—is picking them off one by one. What I found particularly captivating was the narration through a single point of view, which allowed me to experience the growing fear and paranoia intimately. It made the unfolding mystery feel very personal, as if I was trapped alongside the characters, unsure whom to trust. The pacing is relentless, making it hard to put the book down. Pages turned quickly as I yearned to find out who the killer was and how the story would resolve. The plot twist towards the end genuinely surprised me—I didn't see it coming and it added a thrilling layer of complexity to the story. The characters were well-developed enough to evoke strong feelings—some I loved, others I disliked or distrusted. This mix kept me mentally guessing as to who might be behind the attacks. While the story focuses mainly on suspense and survival, it also delves into how people behave under extreme stress. Overall, 'Dead of Winter' is an excellent choice for a chilly evening when you want a suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat read that combines the isolation of winter with a clever, chilling mystery. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys thrillers with a tight, fast-paced plot and unexpected twists, perfect for reading by the fire when the snow is falling outside.
