Have you ever wondered if we could go back in time? The first thing to poke our senses is not the sight, but the "smell" floating on the streets. Perfume is not just a fashion, but a time machine that chronicles the history, culture, and imagination of the people of each age. On the streets of the previous generation, what kind of fragrance would they smell?
🏺 3,000 BC - B.C. I: The "Scent of the Gods" era
Popular Scent: Wood Rubber Scent, Frankincense Smoke, and Rich Fragrance Oils
Refference the bang: This era, fragrance is not a matter of fashion, but of "sanctity" reserved only for gods and royalty. The highlight is that the ancient Egyptians lit "Kyphi," the original secret incense that mixed dozens of herbs and rubber. Who wanted to raise their social status to look rich, elitist, had to immerse themselves in a rich essential oil, walk past anyone in that era, assuring that it smelled like a sacred temple.
🌹 600 to 1300: The Islamic Golden Age and the "Miracle of the Rose Drop"
Popular Scent: Pure Flower Water, and Distracted Rose Scent
Reffenna: To bow to the genius of "Avicenna," the Persian chemist who invented the world's first successful "steam distillation" system. This innovation allowed the extraction of rose aromas, paving the way for the people of that era to sprinkle "flower waters" and alcohol-based perfumes, a turning point that made the world smell like no one had ever done before.
🍋 18th Century: The Age of Wisdom and the "Revolutionary Refreshment"
Popular Scent: Citrus, Lemon, and Refreshing Herbal Scent
The Enlightenment, people began to pay attention to hygiene and cleanliness, and there was a wave of "Eau de Cologne," an orange-lime smell mixed with light herbs, and they went wherever they were refreshing, awakening Europe from the dense smell.
🧪 The Early 1900s: The Age of Synthetic Origin and "Possible Luxury"
Popular Scent: Sophisticated, Mystical Flower Scent and Dreamy Vanilla Scent
Refference: As chemical science progressed, perfumers no longer had to reconcile 100% nature. The birth of synthetics like Aldehydes and Vanillin made perfume more tangible, and importantly, it enabled perfumers to create abstract "aromas, floral aromas that do not exist in nature, leading to the great rebirth of world-legendary perfumes like Chanel No. 5.
💃 1950s-1980s: The American era collided with "powerful organization."
Popular Scent: Intense, seductive, shouting Oriental (Spice / Fragrant Wood) Scent
Refference Bang: After World War II, the global market expanded. Perfume became an accessory that everyone had to inject every day. American brands like Estée Lauder sent Youth Dew into the field. Awakening the tide of intense, long-lasting American perfume. Send wood to the 70s-80s. Become the era of the sexy, aligned and most powerful "Orientals" perfume. Anyone passing by has to look back because the smell is so tight.
🌊 The 1990s: The "Clean, Sport and Sweets" Minimalist Era
Popular Scent: Waterline Clean Scent, Unisex Scent, and Hungry Chewy Sweets Scent
Refference Bang: After a long time, the 90s swing came back to the extreme of minimalism, everyone together wanted to smell like a fresh bath, a refreshing, sporty, genderless smell (Unisex), and a watercourse smell like L'eau d'Issey by Issey Miyake. Or, if it's sweet, it's a gourmand, like Mugler's Angel perfume.
🧬 The 2000s - Present: The Niche Age (Niche) "My Scent, Unique in the World"
Popular Scent: Highly Unique, Gender-Frameless, and Super Synthetic Scent
Refference the bang: There is no longer a single big trend, because it is an era of "Personalization." Niche fragrances grow by leaps and bounds. People yearn for unique scents. Ethical sourcing and genderless scent design. There is also a decant culture, making it a lot more fun to try strange scents.
