... Read moreHey Lemon8 fam! ✨ Since my first post was just a quick intro, I wanted to dive a little deeper into what makes me, Ely, tick – especially since many of you are curious about my life as a Starbucks barista! It's definitely a unique experience balancing senior year of high school with making lattes and connecting with customers every day.
One of the most frequently asked questions I get is, 'How do you manage school and work?' Honestly, it's a juggling act! My days usually start with school, then head straight to my shift at Starbucks. It's taught me so much about time management and prioritizing. There are days when I'm exhausted, but the energy of the store, the smell of freshly brewed coffee, and the smiles from regulars genuinely make it worth it. I've learned to appreciate every free moment I get, whether it's for homework or just unwinding with a good book. It’s all about finding that rhythm and knowing when to push and when to rest.
Working at Starbucks has truly amplified my love for helping others. It’s not just about making drinks; it's about brightening someone's morning with their favorite coffee, remembering their usual order, or just having a quick, friendly chat. I've met so many incredible people, both colleagues and customers, and it feels like a small community. Hearing a 'thank you' or seeing someone's face light up after taking that first sip of their perfectly crafted drink is incredibly rewarding. It's those little moments that really make my job special and fuel my passion for making every moment count, just like I mentioned in my intro. I often think about how these small interactions create a ripple effect, making someone's day a little better.
If you’re thinking about becoming a barista, or even just curious about what goes on behind the counter, it’s an amazing experience. You learn so much more than just drink recipes – you gain customer service skills, learn to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and become part of a supportive team. My advice? Be ready to learn, be patient with yourself, and always bring your best smile! Also, don't be afraid to ask questions; there's always something new to discover, especially with seasonal drinks and new promotions. One of my favorite parts is experimenting with different syrup combinations when I'm off the clock to find new personal favorites!
I’m also discovering so much about myself through this journey. Being a Starbucks barista has given me a lot of clarity on my future dreams and how I want to help people beyond just serving coffee. It’s a stepping stone, and I’m excited to see where it leads! This job has definitely helped me grow more confident and articulate, which I know will be super helpful for college applications and beyond. I hope we can be friends here on Lemon8, and I’m always open to sharing more about my adventures, tips, or just chatting about anything. What are your favorite Starbucks drinks, by the way? Let me know in the comments!
