areas you’re probably forgetting to wear spf

the areas you’re forgetting to wear sunscreen ☀️ as a derm PA, these are the spots I see sun damage the most — and they’re almost always the ones people skip.

your hair part is one of the most exposed areas on your body. a mineral powder SPF like the Roe SPF 50 Mineral Powder makes it effortless to protect without touching your style.

the eyelid area has the thinnest skin on your entire face and is one of the first places to show sun damage. the trick is finding formulas made specifically for the eye area — DRMTLGY Luminous Eye Corrector SPF 41 and ColoreScience Total Eye 3-in-1 Renewal Therapy SPF 35 are my picks.

skin cancer on the lip is real and it’s preventable. ColoreScience Lip Shine SPF, Supergoop Glow Gloss, and DRMTLGY Lip Silk SPF Lip Gloss make it easy to actually enjoy wearing SPF on your lips.

and your ears — tops, lobes, and behind them — are constantly exposed and almost always forgotten. EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46 is lightweight enough to blend right into the hairline area without any greasiness.

save this and go check your sunscreen routine 🙌

... Read moreWhen it comes to sun protection, most people diligently apply sunscreen on their face and arms but often overlook areas like the hair part, eyelids, lips, and ears. As someone who’s made sun care a daily habit, I’ve realized how easy it is to forget these spots despite their high sun exposure. For instance, the scalp along your hair part is vulnerable because the skin is directly exposed to sunlight. Using a mineral powder SPF, like Roe SPF 50 Mineral Powder, can be a game-changer—it’s non-greasy and doesn’t disrupt your hairstyle, making it hassle-free to reapply throughout the day. The eyelid area deserves special mention since it has the thinnest skin on the face and tends to show early signs of sun damage. Regular sunscreens often sting here, so opting for formulas designed specifically for this delicate area, such as DRMTLGY Luminous Eye Corrector SPF 41 or ColoreScience Total Eye 3-in-1 Renewal Therapy SPF 35, can provide protection without irritation. Lips are another frequently neglected spot. It’s surprising how many people forget lip protection, even though skin cancer on lips is a real threat. Using glosses with SPF, such as ColoreScience Lip Shine SPF or Supergoop Glow Gloss, makes it easy to integrate SPF into your daily lip care while enjoying a bit of shine. And don’t forget the ears—the tops, lobes, and especially behind them—these areas are prone to sun damage because they catch the sun when we’re not paying attention. A lightweight, blendable sunscreen like EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46 can be applied without feeling greasy or noticeable. From personal experience, incorporating these tips into your routine not only protects your skin but also helps maintain skin health and appearance over the long term. Remember, comprehensive sun protection is about covering every exposed area, not just the obvious ones. Taking a moment before heading out to check these commonly missed areas can make a huge difference in preventing sun damage.

What is the brand of the hair spf!? I’m a natural blonde.. but even with darker hair my scalp always burns so I was just spraying body spf on my hair but then could never have cute beach hair cause it would look so greasy! @emma, PA-C
