5 tips to survive your first year of college

Transitioning into college can be hard because of all the expectations you have going into your first year. Here are 5 easy tips to a successful first year!

1- Find YOUR place to study

Now this doesn’t mean you can’t study with your friends but remember sometimes the places they like to study might not be the best places you like to

2- It’s normal not stay best friends with the first people you become friends with. As you go through your first year you are going to meet so many people. Just try to find the people that most make you feel like you!

3- Get involved Get involved Get involved!!

Not getting involved your first year can set you back more than you expected it too. If your college or university offers a day where they have all of the clubs out in one common area, 100% go to it!! Sign up for at least 3 and then go from there which one or two you want to drop! Getting involved will set you up for a LIFETIME of success!

4- living with somebody new can be a totally new experience!! 9 times out of 10 you are moving in with somebody you have never met and/ or somebody you met online. This can be a really scary experience, but remember you are not alone in this experience and everybody else in your residence hall is doing the same thing. Not being friends with your roommate is OK. Just remember to be cordial!

5- once you are done playing those high school sports It’s easy to forget about them, but find a group of friends who have played the same thing and go out on a common field and play with them. This is a great way to meet new people also a great way to stay active.

... Read moreTransitioning to college can be overwhelming, but with the right strategies, you can thrive. 1. **Finding Your Ideal Study Space**: The environment you choose to study in can significantly affect your productivity. Experiment with various locations on campus until you find a spot that suits your learning style, whether it be a quiet library nook or a bustling café. 2. **Embrace Change in Friendships**: Your first-year friends may not always be your closest allies long-term, and that's completely normal. College is about exploration, so focus on finding those who genuinely resonate with your values and interests. 3. **Get Actively Involved**: Participation in clubs and activities not only enriches your college experience but also helps you build a network. Attend student organization fairs early in the semester to discover opportunities that ignite your passion and connect with like-minded peers. 4. **Navigating Roommate Dynamics**: Living with someone new can be challenging. Establishing healthy boundaries early on is crucial, especially when it comes to personal space and shared responsibilities. Communicate openly to foster a respectful living arrangement. 5. **Stay Active and Meet New People**: Engaging in physical activities can combat the potential stress of college. Join intramural sports or clubs related to your interests; this is not only a way to keep fit but also a fantastic way to meet new friends. Overall, your first year is a time for growth and self-discovery. Embrace new experiences, stay open-minded, and remember that many of your classmates share your concerns. The transition may be difficult, but with persistence and an active approach, you'll find your niche in this exciting new chapter.
