Weekend mornings call for golden French toast and a drizzle of warm, homemade pecan syrup. Pure cozy bliss.

—French Toast Ingredients—

2 cups heavy cream

4 eggs

1/4 cup sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 teaspoons cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon salt

15 slices Texas toast thick sliced bread

—Pecan Syrup—

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup regular sugar

2 teaspoons unsalted butter

1 tablespoon heavy cream

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1/2 cup of chopped pecans

1. Make the Pecan Syrup: In a small saucepan Combine brown sugar, sugar and 1/2 cup of water over medium-high heat. Cook 5 minutes or until sugar dissolves, stirring constantly. Stir in butter, heavy cream, vanilla extract and pecans. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook 3-5 minutes or until mixture is thick and bubbly.

2. Make the French Toast: In a shallow large bowl or dish, whisk together heavy cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon and salt.

3. Dip bread slices into the egg mixture, dredging them well on both sides, and place on hot, butter greased griddle or skillet on medium heat.

4. Cook for 3-5 minutes, until the bottom of the breads starts to get golden brown. Flip and cook on the other side the same.

5. Remove to a plate. Serve warm with that delicious homemade pecan syrup, some whipped cream, a sprinkle of powdered sugar on top and strawberries along side and enjoy!!

... Read moreCreating the perfect French toast involves selecting the right ingredients and mastering simple cooking techniques. Thick sliced bread like Texas toast is ideal as it soaks up the egg and cream mixture without falling apart, resulting in a custardy yet firm texture. The egg mixture benefits from a blend of heavy cream, eggs, cinnamon, vanilla extract, sugar, and a pinch of salt to add both richness and balanced flavor. The pecan syrup adds a delightful twist to traditional maple syrup, combining the natural sweetness of brown and white sugars with the buttery depth of vanilla and butter. Chopped pecans provide a satisfying crunch and nutty flavor that complements the warm cinnamon notes in the French toast. When preparing the syrup, it's important to cook the sugar and water mixture until fully dissolved and bubbly to achieve a smooth, thick consistency that coats the toast beautifully. Serving suggestions to elevate your French toast include garnishing with whipped cream, a light dusting of powdered sugar, and fresh strawberries or seasonal berries for color and tang. This recipe also lends itself well to variations — try adding a splash of bourbon or a hint of orange zest to the pecan syrup for a sophisticated flavor profile. For those seeking a comforting breakfast or brunch option that combines sweet and nutty flavors with a rich, creamy texture, this homemade French toast with pecan syrup is a fantastic choice. It’s not only easy to prepare but also impressive for family gatherings or weekend treats. Ensuring that ingredients are fresh and the cooking temperature is well-controlled will help you achieve golden, evenly cooked French toast every time.
