Why parents use backpack leashes
Why might a parent use a backpack leash for their child?
All reasons lead back to one core reason, SAFETY!
Here are some examples:
The parent has multiple kids and can't always hold every kid's hand.
This is both in case the kids run off and so nobody can run up and grab their kid while they aren't holding their hands.
A child is prone to elopement, which is especially prevalent in autistic children. (elopement just means running off)
The parent is disabled and the kid is faster than them and/or can break free from their hand.

My 2.5 year old has a backpack leash and I have zero regrets. We don’t use it very often, but it’s very helpful to keep in the car for when we go to new places where she wants to explore. Backpack leases are a huge improvement from the itch vinyl wrist leases that my mom put on my sisters (twins) in the 90s!
