Is pain relief from teething worth strangulation and choking risks?

Let's talk more about Amber teething necklaces.

Basically, they DON'T work and can easily hurt or k*ll babies and toddlers.

Amber contains succinic acid, which is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties.

Scientific research shows that this may be true, but for the Amber to release this Succinic Acid and actually do anything, it would first need to be heated to almost 400°F.

It would literally need to be almost 400°F against your baby's skin to do anything.

Even if they did actually work, is relieving a tiny bit of pain worth risking hurting our k*lling your baby?

The National Institute of Health and the FDA have both advised against these necklaces.

Amber is often touted for its supposed succinic acid content, believed to have anti-inflammatory effects. However, from my research and personal experience, these claims are misleading. Scientific evidence shows that for succinic acid to be released, amber would need to be heated to nearly 400°F — a temperature unattainable on a baby's skin, rendering the necklace ineffective. More importantly, the risks far outweigh any unproven benefits. I remember hearing stories from other parents about necklaces causing choking when beads break loose or strangulation if the necklace gets caught. The U.S. FDA and National Institute of Health have both issued warnings against their use for exactly these reasons. In real life, safety must come first, especially with infants who explore by touch and mouth. Instead of amber necklaces, I found safer teething relief options such as chilled teething rings, gentle gum massages, and appropriate over-the-counter pain relief recommended by pediatricians. These alternatives do not carry the risks of strangulation or choking but can help soothe discomfort effectively. In summary, while the idea of a natural anti-inflammatory necklace is appealing, no credible scientific proof supports its effectiveness. As a caregiver, protecting a child from preventable harm is key. Therefore, I encourage parents to prioritize safe, evidence-backed teething remedies and steer clear of amber necklaces to ensure both comfort and safety during this teething phase.
