Red Lipstick Doesn’t Suit Some People!
I love the look of a cool tone red lipstick but any time that I've worn it, people tell me that it doesn't suit me. I'm devastated because I know that a warm tone red lipstick wouldn't suit me but I really believe that cool tone red lipstick could look good. Now I'm just second guessing myself, does it just not work with some people? Also, I know that there are no rules to makeup and I should feel free to express myself creatively but I care more about whether a look is flattering for this. I can and have worn it but I want to know if it looks good.
I totally get how frustrating it can be when you fall in love with a cool tone red lipstick, but it just doesn't seem to click with your complexion, especially if you have olive skin like mine! It feels like a constant battle between what you love and what's 'supposed' to be flattering. I've been there, staring at my reflection, trying to figure out why a shade I adore ends up making me look a bit... off. Often, people with olive skin tones are steered towards warm-toned reds, like oranges or brick reds, to complement the natural green or yellow undertones. But what if you're like me and those warm shades just don't feel right? The good news is, while some cool tone reds might clash, it's not a universal rule that all cool reds are off-limits for olive skin. It's more about finding the right cool tone for your specific undertone within the olive spectrum. One of the biggest game-changers for me was understanding my own undertones better. Even within 'olive,' there are variations – some lean more yellow, some more green, and some have a neutral-cool quality. A quick trick is to check the veins on your wrist: if they look greenish, you're likely warm; if they're blue/purple, you're cool. If it's a mix, or you can't tell, you might be neutral or olive! Knowing this helps narrow down whether a blue-based cool red or a slightly purple-based cool red might be more harmonious. When you're out shopping, don't just swatch on your hand or wrist. Try it on your fingertips, which are closer to your lip color, or even better, on your actual lips! And always, always check it in natural light. What looks amazing under fluorescent store lights can be a completely different story outdoors. I've learned this the hard way – I once picked up a cool tone red lipstick I thought was perfect, but once I got it home, I realized it just wasn't 'my style' after all, and the picture told the true story! For olive skin, if you're determined to make a cool red work, look for shades that have a deeper, berry-like quality rather than a bright fuchsia or stark blue-red. Think burgundy, wine, or muted plum reds – these can provide that cool undertone without washing you out. Also, don't overlook 'muted red lipstick' options! These aren't too bright or intense, often having a softer, more sophisticated look that can be incredibly flattering on olive skin, bridging the gap between bold and subtle. It's all about experimenting and trusting your gut feeling about what makes you feel confident and beautiful, regardless of what anyone else says.

If this is your picture try not over lining. Red is bold and great for showing off your natural lip shape! Maybe it’ll be more complimenting if you line your lips exactly as they are!🥰
