Where did all the family friendly spots go!?
I’m so annoyed there’s barely any spaces left for families, especially those with little kids. When I was a kid, half the restaurants had some kind of play area. And they’d be by a spot just for families basically a zone where kids could run around a little without bothering other people too much.
Now, it’s like those spaces vanished. Either there’s nowhere for kids to be kids, or I see parents letting their little ones run around, yelling their lungs out, which is ruining everyone’s night. I can’t tell, are these family spots just gone for good? Or do parents now think it’s totally fine to let their kids take over public areas?
It’s not that I hate kids. But families need dedicated spaces so everyone’s happy. Kids get to play, other people get to eat in peace. Did you grow up with those restaurant play areas? And do you think it’s the lack of spaces, that’s causing the chaos now?
It’s so true, I completely relate to that feeling of annoyance and longing for the good old days of restaurant play zones! It really does feel like those dedicated spaces for kids to burn off some energy, letting parents actually enjoy a meal, have mostly vanished. You hit the nail on the head – it's a real pet peeve when dinner gets ruined by wild kids, and it often feels like there’s nowhere for them to just be kids anymore without disturbing others. But while those classic play zones might be harder to find, I've picked up a few tips over the years to make dining out with little ones a bit less chaotic and a lot more enjoyable, even when there isn't a giant slide in sight! Firstly, think outside the traditional play area box. Instead of searching for a dedicated room, look for restaurants with spacious outdoor seating areas or even just a bit of grassy patch nearby where kids can stretch their legs before or after the meal. Some cafes now have small, designated toy corners or books, which aren't full play zones but offer a much-needed distraction. Keep an eye out for unique, engaging decor too – I once saw a place with a yellow Volkswagen bus converted into a seating area, and my kids loved imagining it was a real adventure! That kind of thoughtful design can make a big difference. Secondly, leverage online resources. Parenting forums, local blogs, and even review sites often have sections or filters for "kid-friendly" or "family restaurants." Don't just look for "play zone," but broaden your search to "restaurants with kids activities" or "places with outdoor space suitable for children." Sometimes, restaurants might host specific family days or have entertainment on certain evenings, so checking their social media can be valuable. Thirdly, timing is everything. Going during off-peak hours means fewer crowds, quicker service, and a generally more relaxed atmosphere. This gives kids more room to move (if appropriate) and means less stress for everyone. Always bring a 'secret weapon' – a small bag with coloring books, quiet toys, or even a tablet with educational games can be a lifesaver for keeping little hands and minds busy while waiting for food. Finally, don't underestimate the power of a genuinely welcoming staff. A restaurant might not have a play zone, but if the waiters are friendly, understand that kids can be unpredictable, and offer things like high chairs, booster seats, and plastic cutlery without being asked, it makes a world of difference. Sometimes, a simple kids' menu with appealing options and quick service is more valuable than a forgotten play area. By being proactive and choosing wisely, we can still find spots where families feel comfortable and dinners aren't just endured, but actually enjoyed. It's all about managing expectations and knowing what to look for in our new dining landscape!

Restaurants should be restaurants. If you want your kid to run around, that’s what PARKS are for. It’s crazy how entitled people with kids are. They seem to think that they don’t need to consider other people.
