College packing!
I move into my new apartment this Monday and I haven’t been able to pack at all 😠I’m not sure what all to bring, I’m so worried I’m going to forget something really important!
Alright, so my room right now is definitely a *cluttered bedroom scene*, with open cardboard boxes practically overflowing! With move-in day for my new college apartment just around the corner, I was honestly panicking about packing for college and what important things I might forget. But I sat down and forced myself to get organized, and now I feel so much better. I figured if I'm going through this, so are many of you! First things first, don't underestimate the power of a good checklist. I started by breaking down my life into categories: sleeping, studying, eating, and personal care. This really helped me visualize what each area of my new space would need. For the bedroom, since it's where you'll spend a lot of time, comfort is key. I'm definitely bringing my favorite twin XL sheets (a must-have for most dorm beds!), a plush mattress topper, and a couple of cozy pillows. Don't forget a duvet or comforter! While the OCR mentions posters adorning walls, I'm planning to bring some Command Strips for my own posters and photos to personalize my space without damaging anything. Storage bins are also lifesavers for keeping things tidy under the bed or in the closet. My study area is next. Looking at my desk with a laptop right now, I know I need to pack my charger, mouse, and maybe even a portable monitor if I have space. Beyond that, think about pens, highlighters, notebooks, a sturdy backpack, and a good desk lamp. Even if you do most things digitally, having physical supplies for notes or brainstorming can be really helpful. The bathroom can be tricky if you're sharing. A shower caddy is non-negotiable for carrying your shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and loofah. I’m also packing a couple of sets of towels, a good bathrobe, and those essential shower shoes – trust me on the shower shoes! For clothes, I'm trying to be strategic. Pack for the current season, but also bring a few versatile pieces for colder or warmer weather. Don't forget hangers and a laundry bag or hamper. It's easy to overpack clothes, so I'm aiming for practical outfits I can mix and match. What about the kitchen? If your apartment has one, even basic supplies can make a huge difference. Think a small pot and pan, a plate, a bowl, cutlery, a mug, and a water bottle. And don't forget snacks for those late-night study sessions! Finally, the 'misc but crucial' pile. This includes a small first-aid kit, a power strip with surge protection (super important for all your electronics!), a small tool kit (you never know when you'll need a screwdriver!), and a reusable shopping bag. And of course, make sure you have all your important documents like your ID, insurance cards, and financial aid paperwork easily accessible. When it comes to the actual *packing scene*, here's my biggest tip: label everything clearly! I'm marking my cardboard boxes with what’s inside and which room they belong to. Also, pack an 'open first' box with immediate essentials like toiletries, one change of clothes, and any medications. This way, you're not rummaging through everything on day one. It's overwhelming, but breaking it down makes it manageable. Good luck with your own college packing!
