stuck and scared in college

feeling lost in college is more normal than anyone admits. you’re thrown into this space where you’re expected to have a plan, a passion, a direction—and somehow also be confident in all of it. but most people are questioning everything too.

not knowing exactly what you’re doing doesn’t mean you’re failing, it usually means you’re growing.

this in-between phase, where things feel uncertain and messy, is actually where you start figuring out what matters to you. you don’t need to have it all mapped out right now.

it’s okay to change your mind, take your time, and move forward without having all the answers.

... Read moreCollege can feel overwhelming, especially when everyone seems to expect you to have a clear path and passion already figured out. But based on my own experience and what I've learned from others, it's totally normal to feel lost and uncertain during this phase. One helpful approach is scheduling regular "discovery dates" with yourself—set aside 20 minutes to an hour weekly where you focus solely on what interests you, what makes you happy, or even exploring something completely new. This practice helped me move from feeling stuck to gaining clarity about what truly matters. Also, it's important to recognize that advice from family, friends, or mentors is just that—advice, not instructions. You don't have to fulfill someone else's expectations to make them proud; your journey should be authentic to you. Embracing this mindset reduces the pressure to have it all solved immediately and makes room for personal growth. Another tip is to avoid staying procrastinated in doubt. Doubt can grow if you freeze, but taking small steps, even if you're unsure, helps to regain momentum. Try journaling your thoughts or tracking new skills you want to learn. It doesn't matter if your direction changes several times—each change is part of discovering who you really are and what fulfills you. Remember, college isn't just about academic achievements—it's also about figuring out your identity. Many people spend years following predefined paths without space to self-explore. Utilizing resources like motivational content, useful apps, or connecting with communities who share your experiences can provide the support needed during this journey. Ultimately, give yourself permission to be a work in progress. Feeling stuck and scared doesn’t mean failure—it signals growth. Keep exploring, adjusting your course, and prioritizing your well-being through these challenging but transformative years.
