This southern witch isn't having it!
Listen. From a born and raised Floridian, I will attest that we love and hate the cold just as much as we hate humidity. This one in particular isn't having it! I'm ready to make a bonfire and haven't even entered my job yet!
Ugh, another day, another unexpected cold front in Florida! Seriously, as a true Floridian, I swear we have a love-hate relationship with the cold that’s even more intense than our feelings about humidity. One minute it's sunshine and sandals, the next I'm bundled up in a grey hoodie, looking totally annoyed in my car, just like that grumpy emoji floating over my head feels. My blonde and orange hair might look fiery, but it definitely isn't keeping me warm right now! This southern witch here is absolutely not having it. Instead of heading into work with a spring in my step, all I can think about is building the biggest bonfire to chase away this bone-chilling air. It's not just about warmth, though. For me, a bonfire is about gathering, about grounding, about letting those flames consume all the lingering cold spirits – both literally from the air and figuratively from my mood. There’s something so primal and comforting about watching the sparks fly against the night sky, feeling the heat on your face, and letting the crackle and pop of the wood soothe your soul. When I say 'bonfire spirits,' I'm tapping into something deeper. It’s the spirit of community, of shared warmth, of setting intentions, and releasing what no longer serves you into the smoke. For a southern witch, connecting with the elements is key, and fire is such a powerful cleanser and energizer. It’s a way to reset, especially when the unexpected chill has thrown off your whole vibe. Forget the fancy spells, sometimes all you need is a good, roaring fire to banish the blues and recharge your inner magic. Since I can't just drop everything and start a massive bonfire in the middle of a workday (sadly!), I have to find other ways to invoke that 'bonfire spirit.' Maybe it's lighting a few extra candles at home, brewing a steaming mug of spiced cider, or wrapping myself in the coziest blanket I own. It’s about creating that same feeling of warmth, comfort, and protection from the outside chill. It’s a daily ritual of warding off the cold, embracing coziness, and reminding myself that even in the most unexpected weather, a little bit of fire magic can make all the difference. Who else feels this deep yearning for a bonfire when the weather just won't cooperate?
