Anxious but Calm??

It makes zero sense. I’ll spend days overthinking tiny things, but the second chaos actually hits, I’m suddenly the calm, collected one holding it together 😭 Like my brain picks the weirdest times to be useful.

Does anyone else get super anxious daily but turn into a crisis manager when it’s actually serious??

... Read moreIt is quite common for individuals to experience persistent anxiety on a daily basis, yet unexpectedly become calm and composed when facing actual emergencies or chaotic situations. This phenomenon can be explained by the brain's adaptive response to stress. When confronted with real danger, the amygdala, responsible for processing fear and emotional reactions, signals the prefrontal cortex to engage executive functions such as decision-making, problem-solving, and emotional regulation. This helps transform anxiety into focused action, turning anxious thoughts into constructive crisis management. People living with chronic anxiety often overthink minor or anticipated stressors, which provokes a heightened state of alertness and worry. However, when a genuine crisis arises, their survival instincts activate, suppressing unnecessary anxiety to maintain calmness and effective control. This ability to 'lock in' and manage high-pressure instances can be seen as a strength, highlighting resilience despite the distress caused by daily anxious moods. Understanding this dynamic offers valuable insight into emotional regulation and mental health. For those experiencing this dichotomy, mindfulness techniques, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and stress management strategies can help reduce overthinking in everyday life while enhancing calmness and confidence in handling critical moments. Moreover, sharing experiences with others facing similar feelings through communities such as #AnxietyTalk fosters support and reduces stigma. Realizing that many people turn into natural crisis managers amid actual chaos can empower individuals suffering from anxiety to appreciate their unique coping mechanisms and seek appropriate professional help when needed.

Yes, been looking into research and studies on this. Haven’t found anything worth sharing but my inconclusive finding is that it is our super power.

Avoidant vs. Anxious — and the pain no one talks
