Talking $$ with my dad
I work with my bf in our family business while studying my great-grandfather started it, and my dad handed it over to us about 5 years ago. Since then we’ve grown it almost 200%. My dad barely works now, but he still takes the biggest paycheck—more than double what I make.
I wouldn’t mind that if he managed it wisely. But instead, he spends recklessly: luxury gifts for my stepsiblings, funding my stepmom’s shopping habits, even ordering fast-fashion right after I lent him money because his account was in the red. Now he’s saying he wants to raise his salary again because he “can’t save for retirement.”
Meanwhile, my bf and I are running the business 6 days a week and can’t even afford to hire help. It’s hard to watch him drain resources instead of planning for the future.
Would it be wrong for me to sit down and have an honest conversation with him about his spending and the business?
