My kitchen-aid mixer died and I’m saving to buy a new one but I need help deciding between the two styles
🌹5 qt. Tilt-Head Artisan
🖤7 qt. Bowl-Lift Professional
I love to bake cookies, cakes, breads, etc., and I want something that’s going to last me for years. I’m tempted to splurge on the 7 qt. because I figure buy once, cry once 😂… but is it actually worth the extra money?!
If you own either one, which do you have and how do you like it?
Would you choose the tilt-head or bowl-lift if you were buying today?
I worked with a girl who HATED her bowl lift one because it didn’t fit under her cabinets, so she had to store it in her pantry and it was heavy and annoying to do. She also didn’t like that there aren’t as many fun bowl options for the lift as there is for the tilt head.
Tell me EVERYTHING — especially the pros, cons, and whether you wish you’d gotten the other one! 👇🏼💗
... Read moreHaving owned both the 5 qt. Tilt-Head Artisan and the 7 qt. Bowl-Lift Professional KitchenAid mixers at different times, I can share some insights that helped me decide which was best for my kitchen and baking habits.
The 5 qt. Tilt-Head model is a classic choice, praised for its versatility, lighter weight, and easier storage thanks to a smaller footprint. Its tilt-head design allows straightforward access to the bowl, which makes adding ingredients or swapping attachments quick and hassle-free. If your kitchen space is limited, this model tends to fit comfortably under most cabinets, which is a huge plus. Plus, it has a large variety of bowl options and accessories, which gives you some fun flexibility for different recipes.
On the other hand, the 7 qt. Bowl-Lift Professional offers more power and a bigger bowl, making it ideal if you regularly bake large batches or heavier doughs like bread and pizza. The sturdy build is definitely built to last, supporting more demanding baking needs and larger quantities. However, the bowl-lift design means it doesn’t tilt back, and it usually takes more counter space and height clearance. For me, it was a bit bulky to move or store in tight cabinets, so I had to keep it on my countertop permanently. It's also heavier, which might be a drawback if you need to move it often.
From personal experience, the decision really depends on how much baking you do and your kitchen layout. If you bake occasionally or have limited counter space, the 5 qt. tilt-head mixer is more than enough and a reliable workhorse. If you’re a serious baker who often tackles large batches or dense doughs, investing in the 7 qt. bowl-lift might save you time and effort in the long run.
In my final decision, I chose the 7 qt. Professional because I bake bread regularly and need the extra capacity and power. That said, I make sure my kitchen setup accommodates it well – it’s a permanent fixture on my counter. If you do opt for the bowl-lift, measure your space carefully to ensure it fits under or near your cabinets without hassle.
Overall, it’s a classic "buy once, cry once" choice, but both mixers are excellent in durability and performance. Hopefully, hearing about real-life pros and cons helps you figure out which KitchenAid mixer fits your lifestyle best!
