🌕 THE STURGEON MOON | AUGUST 28
A Full Moon in Pisces + a deep partial lunar eclipse ✨ and last full moon of the summer!!
August’s Full Moon is traditionally called the Sturgeon Moon, named for the lake sturgeon that were historically abundant and easier to catch throughout the Great Lakes during late summer. I especially love that connection living near the Great Lakes — this moon carries themes of abundance, patience, nourishment, gratitude, and trusting the timing of things. 🌊
But this year’s Sturgeon Moon is a little extra special.
On August 28, the Full Moon will be in Pisces ♓️, the final sign of the zodiac, AND it will coincide with a deep partial lunar eclipse. Nearly 96% of the Moon will pass through Earth’s shadow, creating a potentially dramatic reddish/copper appearance. 🌙✨
So what does a Full Moon in Pisces represent?
Pisces is a water sign associated with intuition, emotions, dreams, spirituality, compassion, creativity, surrender, and closure. Being the final sign of the zodiac, Pisces energy can feel like the end of a chapter — gathering everything we’ve learned before preparing to begin again.
This makes this moon especially fitting for:
🌊 RELEASING — letting go of what you’ve outgrown
🕯️ CLOSURE — accepting what has ended or changed
✨ INTUITION — listening to what your inner voice has been telling you
🧘🏼♀️ REST & REFLECTION — slowing down instead of constantly pushing forward
💭 DREAMS — paying attention to recurring thoughts, feelings, and desires
🎨 CREATIVITY — making something without worrying about perfection
🤍 COMPASSION — extending forgiveness to yourself and others
🌱 SURRENDER — trusting that you don’t have to know every step of what’s next
And because this Full Moon is also a lunar eclipse, I’m leaning more toward release and reflection than trying to force a manifestation. Think less “What can I make happen?” and more “What am I ready to stop carrying?” (ABC News)
🌕 WAYS TO HONOR THE STURGEON MOON
📝 Write a release list
Write down the things you’re ready to leave behind — old fears, limiting beliefs, situations, expectations, habits, resentment, self-doubt, or anything that no longer feels aligned.
🕯️ Create a letting-go ritual
Read your list out loud, tear it up, and safely discard it as a symbolic way of saying: I don’t need to carry this into my next chapter.
🛁 Take a Pisces-inspired bath
Water is Pisces’ element, so make your evening about water and restoration. Take a bath or shower, light a candle, play calming music, and let it be a physical reminder of washing away what you’re ready to release.
🌙 Sit under the moon
Go outside, especially somewhere near water if you can. You don’t have to do anything complicated. Just sit, breathe, look up, and allow yourself to be present.
💭 Journal with these questions:
• What am I ready to release?
• What have I outgrown?
• Where am I ignoring my intuition?
• What am I holding onto because I’m afraid of what comes next?
• What chapter of my life is coming to an end?
• What do I want to make room for?
• Where could I practice more trust and surrender?
• What does abundance already look like in my life?
💎 Work with your crystals
If crystals are part of your practice, place them somewhere meaningful while you journal or meditate. You can use this as a symbolic moment to reset your intentions.
🧹 Clear your physical space
Clean your room, organize a drawer, donate something you no longer use, change your sheets, or simply clear away clutter. Sometimes creating physical space makes emotional release feel a little easier, too.
🧘🏼♀️ Meditate or simply breathe
Close your eyes, take a few slow breaths, and imagine yourself releasing the things you’ve been carrying. You don’t need to visualize a perfect future — just allow yourself to feel lighter.
💰 Reflect on abundance
The Sturgeon Moon’s traditional connection to abundance makes this a beautiful time to ask: Where am I already abundant? Think beyond money — relationships, opportunities, experiences, creativity, time, love, growth, and the ability to begin again.
♓️ A LITTLE PISCES REMINDER:
You don ’t have to have everything figured out.
Pisces teaches us that sometimes the next step isn’t about pushing harder — it’s about surrendering, listening, and trusting yourself enough to let something go.
This moon feels less like “Go get it.”
And more like:
“Release it. Trust it. Let it unfold.” 🌊🌕✨
Sturgeon Moon affirmation:
I release what no longer serves me. I trust my intuition. I surrender what I cannot control and make space for what is meant for me.
What are you releasing under this Sturgeon Moon? ♓️🌕
⚠️ A NOTE ON ECLIPSE ENERGY 🌑
Because this Full Moon is also a lunar eclipse, some people choose to approach eclipse energy a little differently than a regular Full Moon. The energy can be chaotic and hard to work with.
