There’s something about being stuck in a confined space, interacting through a speaker, and trying to communicate your order perfectly that can sometimes trigger unexpected anxieties. One time, I was at a Mackinac drive-thru and suddenly felt overwhelmed by a new fear — a mix of social pressure and the fear of messing up my order in front of others waiting behind me. It sounds silly, but that moment unlocked this new perspective on how everyday activities can trigger anxiety for many of us. Since then, every time I approach a drive-thru, I get this gut feeling, making it hard to go through with it. If you’ve ever felt suddenly anxious about something routine, you’re not alone. It’s important to recognize these feelings and maybe find alternative ways to get your food or necessities when possible, like ordering ahead or using curbside pickup. These alternatives can help reduce stress and make the experience more comfortable. This unlocked fear has made me more mindful of how small daily tasks can impact our mental health and has encouraged me to share my story, hoping others might relate or find comfort knowing they aren’t the only ones navigating new fears in familiar places.
