My Road Trip Routine & Must Haves

As a mom of two littles and poet, a road trip can be a great chance to write & reset, or it can be a train ride to overstimulation station.

I try to be prepared for either! I keep my routine minimal and my must haves down to the essentials!

I always start with a good shower and hair wash! I find hair wash days to be energizing, & I want all the energy I can get before a long drive!

I don’t bother styling my hair. This saves time & makes it easier to quickly throw my hair up if I’m dolling out snacks or running inside for a bathroom break.

I always, no matter what, do my full skin care routine! I follow with clear brow gel and mascara. That’s it! I find anything more (foundation, contour, blush, etc.) is a waste as I’m going to be in the car all day. This also gives my skin a chance to breathe!

Because I keep hair and makeup minimal, I can focus on my writing!! I have some of my writing posted on my page and you can get my most recent book at the link in my bio!

I never leave without an Update (iykyk), my sunnies, a claw clip, a book of poetry, and fo course a blanket! I keep all of these within easy reach at all times. There’s nothing worse than digging around for your sunglasses when you’re being blinded by the light.

Let me know if you want to see what my roadtrip bag looks like or want the details on my skincare routine!!

Over the years, I've found that keeping routines minimal yet intentional makes a huge difference in maintaining calm and focus during long drives. Starting the day with a refreshing shower and hair wash charges my energy for the road ahead. I avoid styling my hair extensively, opting instead for an air-dried look that’s easy to manage. This practical choice means I can quickly pull my hair up with a claw clip whenever I need to handle snacks or bathroom breaks without fuss. A consistent skincare routine is a non-negotiable for me, even on travel days. Using just a few products like clear brow gel and mascara allows my skin to breathe during hours spent in the car, preventing discomfort and ensuring I still feel put together. Focusing on skincare rather than heavy makeup also means less to carry and less time spent reapplying. In terms of essentials, I always keep a few key items within arm’s reach: my signature Update drink (for a trusted energy boost), stylish sunnies to combat glare, a favorite poetry book for quiet moments of inspiration, and a soft blanket for warmth and comfort. Having these organized and accessible prevents those frustrating moments of searching while driving. Carrying a small, thoughtfully packed road trip bag not only keeps me prepared but also helps create pockets of calm amidst busy travel schedules. For those looking to streamline their own travel routines, investing in multi-use items like a versatile blanket and classic beauty products can save space and hassle. Whether you’re a parent chasing creative projects or simply looking to enjoy the journey, cultivating a simple yet effective road trip routine can transform the experience. Keeping energy up, skin cared for, and personal comforts close makes all the difference on the open road.
