If you’re used to planning Walt Disney World vacations, this might feel completely backwards.
At Disneyland, I don’t automatically recommend staying at a Disney-owned hotel.
There are Good Neighbor Hotels literally across the street from the parks, and for some families, they make a lot more sense.
Depending on the hotel, you can find:
✨ Rooms within walking distance of Disneyland and Disney California Adventure
✨ Accommodations for larger families
✨ Free breakfast
✨ Complimentary shuttles to the parks
✨ Pricing that can be significantly less than staying at a Disney hotel
Does that mean I’d never recommend one of Disneyland’s three Disney hotels?
Absolutely not. They offer some incredible experiences and perks.
But you don’t have to stay at one to have an amazing Disneyland vacation.
That’s why when I quote Disneyland, I like to look at the whole picture instead of automatically choosing a Disney hotel.
If Disneyland is on your list, I can help you compare Disney hotels and Good Neighbor Hotels to find the best combination of location, amenities, and price for your family. My planning services are complimentary. Request your quote through the link in my profile.
When I planned my first Disneyland trip, I was surprised to learn that staying off-property could actually enhance the experience. Good Neighbor Hotels offer a refreshing alternative to Disney-owned resorts, especially for families looking for more space or those on a budget. One of the biggest advantages I found was the walking distance to both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Imagine stepping out of your hotel in the morning and being just minutes from the park entrances—no lengthy shuttle rides required. This proximity really maximizes your day and allows for easy breaks. For larger groups like mine, Good Neighbor Hotels often provide suites or connecting rooms, which Disney hotels might not always offer at comparable prices. Plus, waking up to a complimentary breakfast helps save both time and money, fueling up before a busy day of attractions. Complementary shuttles were a bonus too, especially when we wanted a quick break back at the hotel without the hassle of parking or long walks. And speaking of savings, the price difference made it easier to enjoy extra meals or souvenirs without stretching the budget. That said, if you're looking for that immersive Disney experience with themed pools, character dining, and early park access, Disney hotels hold undeniable perks. I chose to analyze both options based on what mattered most to my family’s needs. At the end of the day, whether you select a Disney hotel or a Good Neighbor Hotel, the key is matching your stay with your family’s comfort, budget, and convenience. Planning with all these factors in mind led to a trip that was memorable and stress-free. I recommend checking out detailed comparisons and working with a knowledgeable planner who can help balance amenities, location, and cost to fit your unique vacation preferences. It’s definitely possible to have an amazing Disneyland vacation without staying on Disney property!
