Did you know you can step into the American Revolution this weekend at Mount Vernon, the historic home of George Washington? ⚔️ #mountvernonpartner

For a limited time, the estate transforms into a Revolutionary War–era experience, with Continentals, Redcoats, and Hessians performing military drills and 18th-century tactics across the grounds.

You can walk through military encampments, meet historical interpreters, watch General Washington address the troops, and explore artisan demonstrations and a market. I’ve personally visited many times, and each visit feels special and different than the last.

You can also tour the Mansion (first and second floors), including newly restored rooms like the Washingtons’ Bedchamber.

🗓️ Happening through May 3, 2026 (9 AM–5 PM)

🎟️ Grounds Pass: Adults $35 | Youth (6–11) $22 | Under 6 free

🏛️ Mansion tours: $2 per person

🚌 Shuttle available from King Street Metro (Alexandria)

... Read moreVisiting Mount Vernon during the Revolutionary War-era experience is truly immersive. Having been there multiple times myself, I can say it’s a rare opportunity to see history come alive. The reenactors portraying Continentals, Redcoats, and Hessians engage visitors with authentic military drills that showcase 18th-century combat tactics. What makes this even more special is walking through the detailed military encampments and being able to speak with historical interpreters who share insights about daily life for soldiers during the American Revolution. It’s an educational experience that feels personal and interactive rather than just a museum display. I also recommend scheduling time for the artisan demonstrations and market. Watching craftspeople at work using colonial-era techniques adds another layer of appreciation for the era. The small market offers unique handmade souvenirs that reflect Revolutionary War history. Touring the Mansion itself is a highlight, especially with newly restored rooms like the Washingtons’ Bedchamber now open. It provides a glimpse into the private lives of George and Martha Washington beyond their public roles. The guided tours are reasonably priced and enrich your understanding of early American leadership. One practical tip: use the shuttle available from King Street Metro in Alexandria to avoid parking hassles. This also makes for an easy day trip if you’re staying in or near Washington, DC. Whether you are a history buff, a family seeking educational fun, or looking to celebrate America 250 in a meaningful way, Mount Vernon’s ongoing event is an excellent choice. The combination of live performances, historical education, and chance to explore beautiful grounds creates an unforgettable visit.
