When do you put up your Christmas tree? 🌟
#letschat I wait until Thanksgiving has passed. Usually life is busy enough that we don’t get around to putting it up until the first week or two of December 🤪 We finally got it put up tonight! Decorations to come later in the week 🩵 #christmas #christmasdecor #farmhouse #western
It's always such a fun debate, isn't it? 'When do you put up your Christmas tree?' I know for me, like Emily, it often ends up being a week or two into December, usually after Thanksgiving. But I've noticed so many different ideas out there, and it's fascinating how everyone has their own 'perfect' timing! Some people swear by the first weekend of Advent, which usually falls in late November or early December. It's a lovely way to officially kick off the festive season, allowing you to enjoy your twinkling lights for longer. I have a friend who absolutely loves getting hers up right after Halloween – she says it brings her so much joy and helps her cope with the shorter days! On the other hand, many traditionalists often wait until the second or third week of December, sometimes even as late as Christmas Eve. This often ties into historical customs, where the tree was a central part of the celebration on Christmas Day itself, rather than a month-long display. For some, the traditional '12 Days of Christmas' starting on December 25th also influences when they put up and take down their decorations. Then there are the practical aspects to consider. If you have a real tree, putting it up too early might mean it dries out and becomes a fire hazard before Christmas. I've heard stories of people watering their real trees like crazy, only for needles to start dropping by mid-December! The general advice for real trees is to put them up no more than four weeks before Christmas. For those of us with artificial trees, that's less of a worry, so we have more flexibility. My family used to travel a lot around the holidays, so we'd often put ours up the weekend before we left, just to get a taste of Christmas before hitting the road. And let's not forget about busy schedules – sometimes life just gets in the way, and you squeeze it in whenever you can, just like Emily mentioned. Another perspective is the 'mental health' aspect. For some, getting the tree up early brings comfort and coziness during what can be a stressful time of year. The festive lights and ornaments can be a wonderful mood booster. For others, waiting creates a sense of anticipation and makes the build-up to Christmas even more special. There's truly no universally 'correct' answer to 'when do you put up your Christmas tree.' It truly comes down to personal preference, family traditions, and what brings you the most joy and least stress during an already busy time of year. Whether it's the day after Halloween, the first of Advent, December 1st, or even Christmas Eve, the magic is in the spirit of the season. What's your family's tradition? I'm always curious to hear!
