Cleaning Regrets & What I Do Differently Now

I used to think cleaning just meant scrubbing harder and buying more products, until I completely burned out and realized I was doing it all wrong. Over time (and lots of trial and error), I figured out what actually works and keeps me sane.

Here are 6 cleaning habits I’ll never go back to and what I do instead:

1. Use bleach for everything: too harsh. Now I go for gentler options like hydrogen peroxide.

2. Skip gloves: not worth the cracked hands. Cute gloves live under every sink now.

3. Waste paper towels: microfiber cloths for the win.

4. Fall for viral tools without research: learned that the hard way. (Don’t even have a picture of any because they all got tossed in the trash😅)

5. Ignore air quality: I run a purifier and crack a window when dusting/cleaning now.

6. Mop the whole floor with one dirty bucket: nope. I change the water each room or at least halfway through.

What’s something you stopped doing when it comes to cleaning?

... Read moreCleaning can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially with the myriad of products and methods available. Many people make common mistakes in their cleaning routines that can lead to burnout and frustration. One significant mistake is relying on bleach for all cleaning tasks, which can be harmful to health and environment. Instead, opting for natural alternatives such as hydrogen peroxide can ensure a safer cleaning experience while still being effective. Another prevalent cleaning faux pas is neglecting to wear gloves, leading to dry and irritated hands. Investing in durable and stylish gloves can significantly enhance the cleaning experience, making it more enjoyable and less of a chore. Furthermore, the use of paper towels is not only wasteful but can also add unnecessary expenses. Switching to microfiber cloths not only reduces waste but is also a more effective cleaning solution. The importance of researching cleaning tools is another lesson many learn the hard way. It's easy to get caught up in viral cleaning trends, but taking the time to investigate their effectiveness can save money and time in the long run. Moreover, failing to consider air quality while cleaning can result in adverse health effects. Using air purifiers and ensuring proper ventilation is essential for maintaining a healthy environment during cleaning sessions. Lastly, many people mistakenly use the same water for mopping multiple rooms, which only spreads dirt and germs. Changing the water regularly prevents this issue, ensuring a truly clean home. By applying these strategies, anyone can improve their cleaning habits and create a healthier living space.

I am learning that a swifter mop is not it at all. I need a really good mop because swifters just move dirt around instead of picking it up.

I boil water for mopping. I start with my kitchen and my living room. I dump that water and start with fresh boiled water and the mop bathrooms. I use Fabuloso and Dawn with bleach for my floors.
