Books I’ve Read This Summer (And My Current Reads)

Back in January, I joined a book club and rediscovered my love for reading. I wanted to share a few I’ve been loving this summer!

It Ends With Us - Colleen Hoover

This was gifted to me last November by a coworker who said it was a book she loved, would never read again, and thought I would enjoy. I finally decided to get to reading it before the movie comes out next week! So far, I’m really enjoying it, although there are some weird, somewhat cringey aspects that I think could have been done differently (*cough cough* the Ellen letters *cough cough* like… just make them diary entries lol). Hoping to have this done by August 9!

Haunting Adeline - H. D. Carlton

This book was recommended to me by my book club, although we are not reading it together since they’ve already read it. We read Shallow River in July, and after how much I loved that, they said, “You NEED to read this next!” I’m only a few chapters in, but so far I’m really liking it, and I’ve learned I have a soft spot for dark romance.

The Drawing of the Three - Stephen King

I LOVE Stephen King. I have never read anything by him that I haven’t enjoyed. This is the second book in the Dark Tower series, which I’ve been listening to as audiobooks. This is my second time through this book - I started the series in college, but ended up losing track of the series due to time. I’m almost done with this book, and love it just as much as I do the first time!

Shallow River - H. D. Carlton - 5⭐️

It’s been a while since a book has held my interest the way this one did. While I’ve been enjoying the other romances I’ve been reading, I appreciated that this book was much more of a thriller than a romance - it was a nice change of pace! I loved that no matter what I thought was going to happen next, I was dead wrong. Easily the best book I’ve read this year (as of July 2024)! This was a book club book.

The Gunslinger - Stephen King - 4⭐️

This was my second time reading this book (for the same reason noted above about The Drawing of the Three). My boss recommended that I restart the series while we were talking about Stephen King. King’s ability to consistently make something out of nothing when it comes to an interesting story in a setting that should be boring will never cease to amaze me!

Stinger - Mia Sheridan - 5⭐️

I really enjoyed the way this book was split up. In the beginning, the 🌶️ was 🌶️ing and the angst was angsting. The middle was fun because we get to see how much Carson and Grace clearly impacted each other despite only having the weekend fling in Vegas in the beginning. I loved that it had such a happy ending, with them finding each other again and having their own family. My only complaint is that this ending was a time jump, and I would have loved to see more of that journey. This was a book club book.
