As a mother myself, I completely relate to this mix of perceived superpowers and the behind-the-scenes reality. Children tend to think we have magical abilities—whether it’s fixing broken toys, finding their lost treasures, or whipping up a gourmet meal from thin air—yet the truth is often more down-to-earth and filled with improvisation. For example, when my kids suddenly yell, "Mom!" because a Lego piece has gone missing, I don’t have a secret tracking device; instead, I’ve learned to maintain a patient, systematic search method that usually turns up the missing piece from an unlikely spot. And that "chef" illusion? Many dinners are simply reheated or quick fixes, but the kids see it as something special because it’s served with love. Driving with kids in the car definitely tests my calm and patience, too. My goal is to keep everyone safe, even when I’m navigating tantrums or endless questions, rather than to win any race. And when it comes to knowing everything, the creative answers I sometimes invent (like explaining why bugs exist) help nurture their curiosity while buying me a moment to research together later. What truly stands out is the energy we mothers summon—even when exhausted. Running on ‘hope and a prayer’ is a common strategy, but our children only see the love and strength behind that endurance. It’s these moments—feeling like a superhero to the eyes of your children—that make the tough days worthwhile.
