ASHBY got famous by making people talk about her

When I first discovered ASHBY, I went to her account to binge a bunch of Lorax videos and quickly realized there weren’t any.

You mean to tell me she had all these viral moments and wasn’t posting hardly any of them? No.

All these clips of her The Lorax stand-up act were just other people posting clips of her livestream. If I wanted more content from her, I had to watch her live. When you watch someone live, you immediately feel more connected to them. You’re not passively scrolling through someone’s videos, but she’s directly talking to “you” (her commenters on live), using those responses to “you” to fuel her next bit or funny line. She feeds on a live virtual audience.

And she doesn’t need to post any of that. Other people are doing it for her, and because people want more, they are being sent directly to her livestream, where they can’t help but follow and feel closer to her because of the live format.

So she could’ve been posting her own videos, going viral, but not getting as many followers. Just a fleeting like-count. But no. People are watching her live, and they can’t help but comment and follow, and feel closely connected to her.

And people are pushing out her stand-up bits for her, making her skits reach a wider audience because people are spreading her content for her, to a wider audience than she would have been able to reach on her own.

... Read moreASHBY’s rise highlights a shift in content consumption where interactive livestreaming creates a stronger bond between creators and their audience. Unlike traditional video posts that gain temporary viral traction, livestreams offer real-time engagement, making viewers feel personally involved. This dynamic allows performers like ASHBY to respond instantly to comments and reactions, tailoring their content on the spot, which enhances viewer loyalty. The phenomenon of other users sharing clips from ASHBY’s livestreams plays a crucial role in expanding her reach organically. This grassroots sharing enables her content to circulate widely without her needing to post constantly, demonstrating the power of community-driven promotion in today’s digital landscape. As these clips spread across platforms like TikTok, they serve as invitations for curious viewers to join the live shows, where the authentic interaction encourages them to follow and engage more deeply. Furthermore, ASHBY’s approach underscores the value of authenticity and presence over sheer volume of content. By focusing on live performances, she creates moments that mainstream recorded videos might lack — unpredictability, humor born from immediate interaction, and the spontaneity that resonates with audiences looking for genuine connection. This strategy also illustrates how influencers and comedians can build sustainable followings by fostering a vibrant community rather than chasing viral videos alone. With tens of thousands of views on standout moments and millions tuning in live, ASHBY exemplifies how modern content creators can thrive by embracing formats that prioritize engagement and shared experiences over traditional content posting models.
