Psychiatrist Suggested I Be a Housewife
I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD multiple times, but after moving, losing paperwork, and seeing a new psychiatrist, apparently my “below-average processing speed and working memory” aren’t severe enough to count as a disorder. Even though my memory is literally a sieve and my mind wanders to the furthest corners of the galaxy, the takeaway from my session? Maybe I should consider being a housewife… like my mom.
So, in 2025, it’s apparently easier to recommend a life change than to actually treat a disability. I guess I’m supposed to just… forget deadlines, reports, instructions, and cope quietly. Glad we solved that.
Has anyone else gotten advice this ridiculous from a professional? How do you even respond?
