WHY I DONT TALK POLITICS (as a poc)

2025/2/25 Edited to

... Read morePolitical discussions can be overwhelming, especially for individuals from marginalized communities. For many, engaging in politics publicly can feel like a safety risk, particularly for POC who encounter respectability politics. The weight of expectations to educate others often leads to burnout. It's vital to prioritize mental health by setting boundaries, choosing when to share in conversations, and advocating behind the scenes. In today's climate, where every single issue may trigger anxiety or trauma, not participating in public discourse doesn't equate to ignorance. Instead, it reflects a strategic choice to focus on personal well-being while continuing to support important causes in private. Balancing the need to be vocal and the desire to protect one’s mental health is a powerful lesson many POC are learning to embrace. Engaging deeply with issues that matter without feeling the pressure to engage with every debate can lead to a healthier lifestyle and a more meaningful impact in the long run.

nah. this is cowardice. and while you stay silent, the issue continues. people who speak up against anyone and everyone are the ones who bring change. not people who value their own comfort, over conflict or fear of judgement. I hope society keeps unfriending republican's and those who stay silent.

I def agree w this. Arguing with people who don’t respect you based on the color of your skin is dumb asf. You’re just gonna waste your energy.
