Seattle Airport: best nap spot

I loveee long layovers in airports, especially due to all the delays and cancelations because of weather you may as well give your time to stretch iut between flights.

Living in Alaska and travelling through often, I have found this little gem tucked away in the Seattle airport. Located between D23 and 24.

There is a little coffee hut upstairs and if you go down the ramp/stairs you have the bathroom.

... Read moreYou know that feeling: a long layover, a delayed flight, or just needing a moment of peace before the next leg of your journey. As a frequent flyer through Seattle Airport, I totally get it. Finding a truly quiet and comfortable spot to rest, or even grab a quick nap, can feel like striking gold. While my previous post highlights my absolute favorite hidden gem between Gates D23 and D24 – truly a spacious waiting area with those lovely large windows and empty black seating perfect for stretching out – I wanted to share a bit more on how to make the most of it, and maybe even a few other tricks I've learned along the way for finding your own quiet retreat at SEA. First, let's talk about that D23-D24 spot. What makes it so special for resting and napping? It's usually less trafficked than the main concourses, offering a genuinely quiet atmosphere. The natural light streaming through the large windows is a huge plus; it helps you feel less cooped up and can even aid in resetting your internal clock. There's often ample empty black seating, which is surprisingly comfortable for airport chairs, and you can usually find a corner to yourself. Having a coffee hut and bathrooms nearby means you don't have to venture far once you've settled in. When I'm there, I always make sure to have my eye mask, a good neck pillow, and some noise-canceling headphones. These three items are game-changers for truly unwinding in a busy airport environment. Even if you can't fall into a deep sleep, just closing your eyes, blocking out the noise, and leaning back can do wonders for your energy levels. But what if D23-D24 isn't an option, or you're in a different part of the airport? Seattle Airport is large, but with a bit of exploration, you can often find other pockets of tranquility. I've found that gates at the very ends of concourses, especially early in the morning or late at night, tend to be quieter. Look for areas away from major food courts or ticketing counters. Sometimes, even finding a less-used gate that isn't actively boarding can offer a few rows of empty seating for a quick rest. Another strategy for finding a quiet seating area is to consider airport lounges. While some require memberships or specific airline tickets, many now offer day passes. These can be a fantastic investment if you have a very long layover and truly need a dedicated space for resting, napping, and perhaps even a shower. They typically provide comfortable seating, a quieter environment, and often complimentary food and drinks, making the cost worthwhile for extended stays. For those quick power naps, remember to set an alarm! Nothing worse than oversleeping and missing your flight. I always double-check my gate and departure time before settling in. And while it's tempting to totally zone out, always keep your belongings secure and within sight. A small backpack used as a pillow, with straps wrapped around your arm, can deter opportunistic theft. Ultimately, navigating flight delays and long layovers is a part of travel, especially when weather plays a role. Knowing you have a reliable spot for resting or napping, or even just a strategy for finding one, can significantly reduce travel stress. Whether it's my favorite D23-D24 haven or another quiet corner you discover, prioritizing a moment of peace at Seattle Airport can make all the difference in arriving at your destination refreshed and ready for adventure!
