Turkey Mac & cheese mixed with garlic butter shrimp & crab

🍴 Lovie Mae’s Kitchen Was Worth Every Bite!

If you’re near Ladera Heights off La Tijera, put Lovie Mae’s Kitchen on your food list! This local pop-up is best known for its flavorful oxtail plate, but tonight I switched things up and tried the turkey macaroni—and it was so good!

Of course, I had to bump it up a notch at home by adding my own garlic-butter shrimp and crab legs. Once everything came together, the flavor was absolutely incredible: creamy, buttery, savory, and loaded with seafood goodness. I enjoyed it so much that I had to go back for round two!

The prices are a little on the higher side, but the flavor made it well worth the treat. If you’re ever in the area and craving some rich, comforting food, stop by Lovie Mae’s Kitchen and see what they’re serving!

... Read moreIf you’ve ever thought about elevating your traditional mac & cheese, adding garlic butter shrimp and crab legs is an absolute game-changer. I recently tried this combination inspired by a local favorite pop-up called Lovie Mae’s Kitchen in Ladera Heights, and it completely transformed the dish into a luxurious seafood comfort meal. Cooking the garlic butter shrimp at home is quite straightforward – simply sauté fresh shrimp in plenty of butter, garlic, and a touch of lemon juice until they’re perfectly tender. Then, gently steam or boil the crab legs to release their natural sweetness. Mixing these with creamy, perfectly cooked turkey macaroni creates a beautifully balanced dish where the richness of the cheese blends with the fresh seafood flavors. One key to success with this dish is quality ingredients. Using real butter and fresh seafood makes all the difference. Also, seasoning is crucial: adding some paprika or cayenne powder to the cheese sauce can add a subtle depth without overpowering the shrimp and crab. When serving, garnish with chopped parsley or green onions for a fresh contrast. This meal pairs wonderfully with a light salad or roasted vegetables to cut through the richness. Personally, enjoying this upgraded version made me appreciate how comfort food can be both indulgent and gourmet with just a few tweaks. It’s perfect for a cozy night in or a special occasion. If you’re near Ladera Heights, trying Lovie Mae’s original turkey macaroni is a great starting point, but I highly recommend trying the seafood upgrade at home for an unforgettable flavor experience. Don’t be discouraged by the slightly higher price point at the pop-up; the quality and flavors make every bite worth it. Plus, supporting local Black-owned food businesses like Lovie Mae’s Kitchen is a wonderful way to explore unique culinary delights and contribute to the community.
