Wow, it's finally here – graduation week at Texas State! I can hardly believe it. As I prepare to walk across that stage, one of the most meaningful pieces of my regalia is definitely my graduation stole. For me, specifically, it's my 'Texas State Class of 2025 First Generation' stole, and it carries such incredible weight and pride. If you're wondering what a first-gen stole is all about, it’s not just a piece of fabric; it’s a powerful symbol. It represents the journey of being the first in your family to earn a college degree. Every time I look at the maroon embroidery, I think about all the sacrifices, late nights, and the incredible support system that got me here. It's a testament to breaking barriers and setting a new path for future generations in my family. It truly makes the moment of graduating from TXST feel even more profound. For fellow Bobcats looking for information on where to get their own TXST graduation stoles, there are a few common places. The official Texas State University Bookstore is always a great starting point for university-branded stoles, honor cords, and sometimes specific departmental stoles. Many student organizations also offer custom stoles for their members, recognizing their involvement and achievements. I’ve seen some beautifully designed ones for various academic and social groups around campus. Make sure to check with your specific college or department as well, as they sometimes have unique stoles or cords for certain programs or honors. Planning ahead is key, especially as graduation day gets closer! When you’re choosing your stole, think about what you want it to represent. Is it your academic honors, your cultural heritage, your specific major, or like mine, your 'First Generation' status? Each stole tells a part of your unique story at Texas State. It's also worth thinking about how it will look with your cap and gown for those all-important graduation pictures. You want it to be a comfortable fit and sit nicely throughout the ceremony. As I think about leaving San Mo, there's definitely a bittersweet feeling, just like the text on my stole overlay says. This town and this university have become such a huge part of my identity. The friendships, the learning, the challenges – it’s all contributed to who I am today. My TXST graduation stole will be a cherished keepsake, a constant reminder of this amazing chapter and the incredible achievement of graduating from Texas State. To all the other graduates out of TXST this week, congratulations! Wear your stoles with pride and celebrate every single step of your journey. What does your stole mean to you?
