Scripture Sunday!

... Read moreAs a parent, I often find myself searching for the perfect words to pray over my little ones. There's so much I want for them – protection, wisdom, kindness, and a deep, unwavering faith. It's truly a blessing to have them, and I've found so much comfort and guidance in using Bible verses to shape my prayers. It’s not just about asking God for things; it’s about aligning my hopes for them with His divine will. One of the most powerful things I do each day is pray a specific Bible verse over my children. It helps me focus on their spiritual growth and well-being. For instance, I often pray Jeremiah 29:11, asking God to give them a future and a hope, or Psalm 139:13-14, reminding them how wonderfully and fearfully they are made. These aren't just words; they're declarations of faith over their lives. When I pray these verses, I feel a deep connection to their future, knowing that God's plans are always greater than my own. In today's world, there's so much emphasis on outward appearance, and it can be really challenging to navigate, especially for our kids. That's why the message of inner beauty, as highlighted in 1 Peter 3:3-4, resonates so deeply with me. It says, 'Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.' This verse is a constant reminder for me, and something I try to instill in my children, that true worth comes from within. It’s about cultivating character, kindness, humility, and a spirit that reflects God's love, not just focusing on what we see in the mirror or how others perceive us outwardly. When I see them choose kindness or show compassion, I know that inner beauty is shining through. Beyond inner beauty, the Bible reminds us constantly that children are a heritage from the Lord (Psalm 127:3). They are a precious gift! This perspective transforms how I approach parenting. It's not just about raising them, but stewarding these incredible lives God has entrusted to me. I often pray verses that encourage them to walk in God's ways, like Proverbs 22:6, which speaks about training a child in the way they should go. And when I think about how to love my children biblically, Colossians 3:21 comes to mind: 'Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they may not lose heart.' This reminds me to be patient, understanding, and to create an environment where they feel loved and secure, not constantly frustrated. It’s a journey, parenting, and some days are definitely tougher than others. But leaning on scripture, praying these powerful verses over my children, and focusing on cultivating their inner beauty has brought so much peace and purpose to my role as a parent. I truly believe that by showering them with these scriptural prayers, we're building a strong foundation for their lives, rooted in God's unending love and truth.
