The weather in Puerto Rico was perfect during my visit – warm and breezy, ideal for exploring on foot. Don't miss the chance to visit El Morro or San Cristobal, the historic forts that guard the city. I vividly remember standing in a stone sentry box (garita), looking out at the vast ocean, feeling the rich history surrounding me. The panoramic views from these ancient walls, overlooking the green grassy fields and the sparkling sea, are truly unforgettable. And of course, no visit to Old San Juan is complete without trying a piragua! These refreshing shaved ice treats, served by street vendors with their colorful umbrellas, were a lifesaver on a warm afternoon. I managed to get a 'piragua en ingles' (a snow cone with English flavors listed), which was a fun local experience. I also stumbled upon some charming local shops. I popped into a place called "Anita PUERTO RICO," which had the cutest souvenirs, and I saw a lively spot with a "CAFE RON 110" sign that just radiated local flavor. For those looking to venture beyond Old San Juan, consider a trip to Vieques. While I didn't make it there this time, I heard amazing things about places like the Melao Social Club Vieques for evening entertainment. It’s definitely on my list for next time! The overall background of Puerto Rico is one of rich culture, stunning natural beauty, and incredibly warm people. Whether you're exploring the bustling city or simply enjoying a beach at sunset with the sound of the ocean, Puerto Rico offers an experience like no other.
