Garden Season!!!!!

Dead Nettle is here and I’ll be out harvesting her tomorrow!

Favorites uses are as tea (especially during pollen season, to keep allergies under control) and as an infused oil (super hydrating.)

It’s finally timeeeeeee!!!

... Read moreAs someone who has incorporated dead nettle into my wellness routine, I can attest to its versatility and benefits, especially during the spring season. Dead nettle, particularly the purple variety, is one of the earliest flowering plants, making it a timely herbal remedy for seasonal allergies. Drinking dead nettle tea helps soothe allergy symptoms, thanks to its natural anti-inflammatory properties. When I prepare dead nettle tea, I like to harvest fresh leaves early in the morning, rinse them gently, and steep them in hot water for about 10 minutes. The mild, earthy flavor makes it a pleasant daily tonic during pollen-heavy days. Beyond tea, infusing dead nettle in oil is a fantastic method to extract its nourishing compounds. The resulting infused oil is deeply hydrating and can be used as a moisturizer or added to homemade skincare products. To make infused oil, I typically fill a glass jar with fresh dead nettle leaves and cover them with a carrier oil like olive or jojoba. I then let it sit in a warm spot for 4-6 weeks, shaking the jar occasionally. This oil not only helps maintain skin moisture but also provides calming effects for irritated or sensitive skin. In addition to tea and oil, dead nettle can also be dried for later use throughout the year. I find that drying the leaves on a clean rack in a well-ventilated area preserves their medicinal qualities effectively. Overall, embracing dead nettle at the start of garden season has enhanced my natural health approach, making it easier to cope with allergies and skin dryness without relying on synthetic products.
