Iconic skirt outfits from past me
How do you think your fashion sense has changed since you were younger? Do you like your past outfits or do they make you cringe?
#Every time I see my past pictures I am so impressed by how fashionable I was. These are two outs that I think are perfect examples of that.
Here is the breakdown of why I love them:
1. (2nd slide)
This outfit was for Eid in 2021. Lockdown was just lifting so it was hard to source outfits from abroad or custom make them so I made this one.
The skirt was from a store on Whiteplains road which is a shopping corridor in the North Bronx. I can’t remember the exact one but there were so many stores that sold these styles.
I cannot for the life of me remember where the shirt was from but it paired so nicely with the skirt and the black velvet hijab I was gifted. I bought the shoes from a store of called Fabco in the South Bronx.

Ya’ll wasn’t college me so CUTE! Ugh I loved her.
I held this outfit was for the last event I attended before COVID lockdown. The skirt was from custom made in Senegal and the leather jacket and hijab weee gifts from a friend. I don’t remember where the earrings were from but the bracelets were from rainbow.

Reflecting on past outfits often brings a mix of emotions, from fondness to cringe, but for me, it's been a rewarding journey of self-expression and creativity. The skirt outfits I shared are more than just clothes; they represent milestones during challenging times like the post-lockdown period and pre-COVID days. One of the most memorable aspects of these outfits was sourcing pieces locally and embracing the creativity that came with limited access to international fashion during the lockdown. Shopping along Whiteplains Road in the North Bronx was a treasure hunt—an experience that reminded me how local fashion scenes often hold unique gems that rediscovering can greatly enrich a wardrobe. The black velvet hijab gifted to me perfectly complemented my Eid 2021 outfit. It's a small example of how thoughtful accessories can elevate even simple looks. Shoes from Fabco in the South Bronx added a distinct touch that tied the ensemble together. These elements collectively created a silhouette that felt uniquely mine. In a different chapter, my college outfit, featuring a custom-made skirt from Senegal, highlights the beauty of embracing cultural roots in fashion. The gifts of a leather jacket and hijab from friends added sentimental value that makes revisiting these styles feel like reliving treasured memories. Personally, experimenting with skirts over time has been a form of artistic expression, shaping my confidence and personal style identity. Sharing these throwback looks encourages me to keep nurturing my fashion sense with both creativity and authenticity. It also inspires me to support local designers and cherish meaningful gifts that make outfits more than just apparel—they become stories to tell.
