I turned 21 last month and my new drivers license finally came in the mail 💌
I am so happy how the photo turned out and amazed how much i’ve changed in the last 5 years. The first photo is my picture when I was 16 getting my permit. I have been looking forward to renewing my license mainly for the photo as weird as it is 😅
As you can see in the first photo, I look much younger, my hair was darker and now I have matured and lightened my hair already a huge difference and I did full glam which contour enhance features, fake lashes on my outer eye to create a lifted look etc!
I know there are probably assumptions… No, I do not have any medical cosmetics/aesthetics done nor have I ever received any. It’s all natural 😙 Smiling makes your nose widen and I decided to keep a straight face which makes my nose look slimmer. When I smile now, my nose looks the same as the first photo.
My face has just changed from getting older. I lightened my hair and I obviously have full glam makeup on. 5 years can be a big difference :)
... Read moreOMG, getting my new driver's license at 21 was SUCH a moment! I know so many of you are wondering, 'Do you even have to retake your license picture when you turn 21?' Well, it really depends on your state! For me, in New York, since my old license was expiring around my birthday, it was a definite yes, and honestly, I was SO ready for a fresh photo. Some states let you keep your old photo if your license isn't due for renewal, but often, especially when you're moving from a junior license or your appearance has changed a lot, a new photo is required. Always check your local DMV or MVD site for the specific rules in your state, whether it's for a new Texas ID, California driver license, or an Indiana BMV driver's license!
This brings me to the glorious topic of ID photo requirements. I've heard so many people ask, 'Are you supposed to smile in driver's license photo?' My personal experience, and what many places advise, is to maintain a neutral or straight face. As I mentioned, when I smiled at 16, my nose looked wider in my permit photo. For my new 21 ID photo, I kept a straight face, and wow, what a difference! It really helped my features look more defined. Beyond that, remember to have a clear background, no hats, and make sure your eyes are fully visible. Those 21+ ID picture requirements can be strict!
Now, let's talk about the glow-up! My 16-year-old self had dark hair and a wide smile, a sweet kid, but not exactly "license photo ready" by my current standards, haha. Fast forward to 21, with my lighter hair and some strategic makeup, it's a total transformation! For my photo, I used a little contour to enhance my features and some subtle fake lashes on the outer corners to give a lifted look. The key is natural-looking makeup that defines rather than overpowers. Think about how you want your future 21 year old ID front and back to look – it's going to be with you for years!
Many of you also ask, 'Can I get my 21 license before my birthday?' Again, this varies by state. Some states allow you to apply for renewal a certain period before your birthday, especially if your current license expires on your birthday. However, you often won't receive the physical 21+ ID until your actual birth date or very close to it. As for 'how long does it take for the license to arrive,' mine came in the mail pretty quickly after my appointment, usually within 1-2 weeks. It felt like forever waiting for that little card!
It's truly amazing how much your face changes over five years. My face has just matured naturally, and pairing that with a good makeup routine and knowing how to pose for an official photo made all the difference. Seeing a picture of ID over 21 next to my old permit really highlights the journey. So, if you're due for a new driver's license or just curious about how to nail that perfect ID photo, I hope my experience helps you rock your next one!
Not gonna lie, I thought it crazy that she claimed her nose changed “naturally”. But I swear, I looked in the mirror and smiled really wide like her, then did the pout face and my nostrils and bridge length looked dramatically different, even without makeup.
She probably just followed the passport contour tutorial mine is the same I look like I had my cheeks done and nose.
