What is the definition of healing?
Healing is often misunderstood as simply reliving pain or crying through trauma, but it's actually a profound process of transformation. From my own experiences, healing means actively creating new, positive patterns in life to replace the old, painful ones formed by past trauma. One crucial step in healing is acknowledging the trauma and the ways it affects us. It's not about brushing it off or pretending nothing happened; instead, it's about allowing ourselves to fully feel the emotions tied to the experience. Although this can be uncomfortable or even painful, it’s necessary because shutting off negative feelings also cuts us off from experiencing positive emotions. Healing is rarely a straight path. Some days you may feel like you’ve made huge progress, and other days the struggles resurface, which can feel like setbacks. This non-linear quality is natural. The key is to stay committed to growth by consistently choosing healthier responses and self-care practices. Many people don’t realize that ignoring or numbing feelings creates a state of emotional numbness, where even joy is hard to reach. Learning to embrace both the lows and highs of our emotional landscape allows healing to deepen. For me, this has meant confronting fear, sadness, and anxiety while also cultivating moments of happiness and gratitude. Ultimately, healing is about becoming the best version of ourselves despite obstacles. It’s about day-by-day work, patience, and kindness toward ourselves. Embracing healing as an ongoing journey rather than a destination opens us up to authentic awareness, growth, and lasting happiness.
