Customised our wedding band from Japan!

We were never the couple who wore much jewellery, and always thought we’d use watches as our “rings” instead.

But while planning our ROM, we stumbled upon Japanese made-to-order wedding bands with doodle engravings, and that instantly caught our attention! ✍🏻

In Japan, custom wedding bands are actually very popular, apart from the usual high-end brands like Cartier or Boucheron. What made this even more special was how customisable everything was, from diamonds and gemstones to self-drawn laser engravings. This makes your wedding band very unique and truly one of a kind.

📍So we headed down to ith’s Singapore boutique at Tanjong Pagar to check it out. The moment we stepped in, we loved the calm, zen-like vibe of the space. We were served in a private room by a specialist who had already shortlisted designs for us based on a quiz we completed when booking our appointment. The whole experience was super comfortable — we could try on different designs and sizes to find the perfect fit.

After narrowing down our design, we got a quotation and decided to top up for laser engraving. We wanted something really personal, so we drew doodles of each other and even had our handwritten names engraved onto the rings.

Since ith originated from Japan and we already had a Tokyo trip planned, we wondered if purchasing the rings there might help with the cost due to exchange rates. We reached out to their Japan store, and although there was only one English-speaking staff, he was incredibly friendly and helpful. He knew we had visited the Singapore branch and even coordinated with the Singapore specialist to offer us a bigger discount, on the condition that we collect the rings in Japan.

Doing so saved us quite a bit, especially because buying the rings in Singapore would mean delivery and insurance fees (imbedded in the cost of ring), which we could avoid by collecting them in Japan. The entire process was honestly fuss-free. We continued liaising with the Singapore specialist, who helped coordinate everything with the Japan branch.

We took a couple of days to finalise our doodles and sent them over. She even helped clean up our drawings before sending them to the craftsman. (And if you’re not confident in drawing, the specialists can help too!)

We were so happy with how the engravings and final rings turned out. Picking them up in Japan was smooth, and the whole journey felt so special. Never thought we’d say this, but we truly found the most perfect wedding bands 🥹💍

... Read moreChoosing which finger to wear a wedding ring on is a common consideration, especially when blending cultural traditions. In Japan, the wedding ring is traditionally worn on the fourth finger of the left hand, similar to many Western countries, symbolizing love and commitment. However, some couples also choose the right hand depending on personal or cultural preference. During our ring customization journey, we found that understanding this tradition added a meaningful layer to our decision. It was delightful to learn that our rings, customized with personal doodles and handwriting, would be worn on that iconic finger representing union. Furthermore, the Japanese boutique specialists also shared insights about ring sizing and fit specific to the ring finger, ensuring comfort for daily wear. If you’re considering getting a wedding band in or influenced by Japan, it’s helpful to keep in mind these traditions and practicalities about finger choice. Wearing your unique and customized ring on the traditional finger enhances not just its symbolism but also its personal value. Plus, trying on rings at specialist boutiques, like we did both in Singapore and Japan, gives you a confident sense of size and style suited perfectly to your finger.
