🚀 Vance Astrovik: The First Guardian of the Galaxy
On this day in 1968 the guardians of the Galaxy made their first appearance.
Born in Saugerties, NY, Vance Astrovik was a small-town kid who became the youngest astronaut in U.S. history. At 18, he joined the Air Force and later volunteered for Project: Starjump, the first manned interstellar mission! His ship, Odysseus I, wasn’t built for faster-than-light travel, so the trip to Alpha Centauri would take 1,000 years.
To survive, Vance was sealed in a copper-alloy suit and his blood replaced with a life-preserving fluid. Alone in deep space, he awakened periodically from stasis — slowly unlocking psionic powers that gave him full control of telekinesis and energy manipulation. 🧠💥
By the time he reached Centauri IV, he had evolved into Major Vance Astro, founder of the original Guardians of the Galaxy! 💫
