The great peach debate…

When you're at the market, look for peaches with a round top rather than a pointed one—as the rounded shape often indicates a sweeter, juicier fruit. Avoid pointed-topped peaches, which tend to be less flavorful and harder in texture. Another key factor is the feel of the peach. A ripe peach should have a slight give when gently pressed, signaling that it’s sweet and ready to eat. If it feels hard or tasteless, it's better to pass up that one. The skin should be vibrant and free of blemishes or wrinkles, which can indicate freshness. Also, consider the aroma. A ripe, sweet peach will often have a fragrant smell near the stem area, which is a good sign of ripeness and sweetness. If possible, give the peach a gentle sniff—this sensory check can guide you better than just looking at the fruit. Finally, remember that peaches continue to ripen after they've been picked. If you pick a peach that's slightly firm but shows the right shape and color, you can leave it out on your counter to soften up and develop more sweetness. In summary, picking peaches that are round-topped, visually vibrant, slightly soft to touch, and fragrant will help you enjoy the sweetest and crispiest experience every time you eat this delicious fruit.

You can feel for an indention on a watermelon to get a female one. The female ones are sweeter tasting. Male fruit have outer point or no indentation at all.
