Connect When They Are Silent
As parents, communicating with little ones can be a rollercoaster ride. 🎢 One moment they're chattering away, and the next, they shut down. This is normal for kids aged 0-6; their emotions can be overwhelming.
Create a safe space for them to express themselves. Get down to their level, make eye contact, and softly invite them to share. Say something like, “I noticed you seem quieter today. I’m here if you want to talk.” 🤗
Listen actively when they do open up. Nod and respond with gentle sounds to show you’re engaged. Use open-ended questions to encourage them to articulate their feelings; instead of “Did you like school?”, ask “What was the best part of your day?” 🗣️
Sharing your feelings can also help. Let them know if you’re having a tough day. Don’t underestimate the power of play—fun activities like coloring or building blocks can spark natural conversations. 🎨
Patience is key; they might need time to process. Being present in silence can be comforting. Embrace quiet moments as chances to strengthen your bond. Each dialogue builds trust and shows their voice matters. 🤍
