... Read moreLiving with an autoimmune disease often means adapting to many physical challenges, and for me, my walker has become an essential companion in this journey. My experiences span from waiting at huge airports, like Austin's, to navigating the aisles of supermarkets. Initially, it felt overwhelming to accept the limitations imposed on me, especially as I often had to take breaks — sometimes as many as three in a short period — to avoid exhaustion or fainting. One of the toughest but most rewarding parts of this process has been learning to listen to my body and recognize the signs when I need to rest. This acceptance is not just physical but emotional, too. It took time to stop feeling frustrated or burdened and instead embrace the support that my walker provides. The ability to move comfortably and safely gives me freedom and peace of mind, turning a potential obstacle into a bridge. Through my personal investments in health and mobility aids, I've gained confidence in handling longer distances that would have been impossible before. Comfort plays a huge role – wearing the right shoes and ensuring my walker is suited to my needs makes a real difference in my day-to-day life. To anyone else facing similar struggles, I would say: be patient with your progress. Celebrate the small victories, like making it through a long trip or a crowded supermarket without too much strain. This journey is not about perfection but about persistence and adapting to new realities while maintaining as much independence as possible. Ultimately, sharing my story is a way to connect with others who might be feeling isolated by their condition. We are not alone, and with the right tools and mindset, life with an autoimmune disease can still be fulfilling and active.
