Highlights gone wrong at a hair salon on the top🤦🏽♀️
Thank you Lorena’s beauty salon for fixing my hair. It took 2 ladies to fix my hair. I was so disappointed with Rebekah’s in Pittsburg. I did like my haircut but the highlights bled out so quick. Left me in the chair and had the nerve to send someone else to check my hair while she was in the break room. I felt really out of place. Not professional at all. I will never go back. They had me as a client for 10 years. One of those nope never again. I guess she lost her touch or I caught her on a bad day idk🤦🏽♀️#notsalonperfect#BadExperience#imdone
... Read moreAfter hearing a friend's recent hair highlights horror story (and maybe experiencing one myself!), I realized how common it is for things to go wrong at the salon. There's nothing worse than expecting beautiful, blended highlights and walking out with something completely different – or worse, a hair disaster! If you've ever dealt with highlights gone wrong, you know the feeling of panic and disappointment.
One of the most frustrating issues is highlights bleeding. This often happens when the foils aren't sealed properly, or too much product is applied, causing the lightener to seep onto other strands. The result? Patchy, uneven color, sometimes with distinct lines instead of a soft blend. Then there's the uneven highlights hair scenario, where some sections are super bright, and others barely lifted, creating a striped or splotchy look. This can be due to inconsistent highlights application during sectioning, product saturation, or leaving the lightener on for different durations. And let's not forget the dreaded brassiness or reddish-orange highlights, especially if you have naturally dark hair. If the toner isn't strong enough or left on for too short a time, you can end up with warm, unwanted tones that are far from the cool, ash blonde you envisioned. Sometimes, you might even see a visible scalp where the highlights start too close to the root, making them look grown out too quickly or too harsh.
So, what do you do if you find yourself in this situation? If you're still in the salon chair and notice something is off, don't be afraid to speak up calmly. It's often easier to address it immediately. If you've already left and are facing a full-blown hair disaster, take a deep breath. Your first step should be to research salons specializing in color correction. Look for stylists with excellent reviews specifically for 'fixing highlights' or 'color correction'. It's important to find someone skilled who understands how to neutralize unwanted tones, blend harsh lines, or re-apply highlights more evenly without further damaging your hair. It might take a couple of appointments, but a skilled professional can truly work magic.
To avoid another highlights gone wrong situation, careful salon selection is key. Always check reviews, look at before-and-after photos on social media, and pay attention to how stylists respond to client concerns online. A thorough consultation is non-negotiable. Clearly articulate your desired outcome, bring inspiration pictures, and ask your stylist about their highlights application technique. Discuss how they prevent bleeding and ensure an even lift, especially if you're prone to uneven highlights hair or brassiness. Don't hesitate to ask about the products they use and how they plan to tone your hair, particularly if you're trying to avoid those reddish-orange highlights that can pop up on darker hair. After your appointment, follow their aftercare advice diligently. Using purple or blue shampoos and color-safe products can make a huge difference in maintaining your beautiful highlights and preventing them from turning brassy or dull over time. Your hair is an investment, so choosing the right professional and communicating effectively are your best defenses against a salon nightmare!
Am sorry you had a bad salon experience. I had similar experience when I had my hair professionally bleached out last summer. Am trying to grow out the damages.
