throne of glass recap

holy MOLY dude.

first off, i just want to say how happy i am i finally started this. the world-building, plot line, character development was chefs kiss. i know some people arent fond and others that dont quite feel as strongly as i do about the first book.

i. loved. every. second. of. it.

ive read a few reviews on goodreads and the distaste of caelena’s personality. some people think its just another story of a girl that everyone idolizes her beauty and acts as if thats whst carries her through the story. yes she can be arrogant and extremely self aware of her skill and physical appearance HOWEVER, i really think that is drives the story of her tragic life. she lost everything so young and was taken into a life of manipulation, betrayal, and brutality. nothing was sweet about caelena’s childhood AT ALL.

to me, her striking beauty and extreme self awareness sets her apart from any other assassin-like MC that i’ve read. shes cunning and clever, and uses her strengths to get the job done. she deceives others into thinking shes just another woman after the crown. shes the ultimate element of surprise. and yes this trope can get very repetitive after a while but sarah writes her in a way that yes you can get annoyed with her, yet always wondering why. i believe that many people are annoyed because of the simple fact that you cant know EVERYTHING about her. at least not all at once. yes shes brutal and conceited but after all.. shes a young woman that still fights to hold onto her humanity as she fights to keep her true identity intact instead only being valued as a weapon for someone else’s personal gain. she still fights for her freedom to live the life she could only dream of. she doesn’t have to be vicious and crazy to show her sacrifice and strength. she shows strength to everyone else in the book and encourages others to look inwards. and question the idea of living life the way they want to. not in fear of how others will perceive them, or to please others agenda.

she has hope. and thats the one thing that can destroy evil. hope for something better.

... Read moreOkay, after diving into "Throne of Glass" myself, I completely resonate with the feeling of being utterly captivated by Celaena Sardothien! It’s true, some readers struggle with her initial arrogance and self-awareness, but for me, that's what makes her so incredibly real and compelling from the very first page. I mean, here's a young woman, a legendary assassin, who has endured unimaginable trauma. Her sharp wit and even sharper tongue aren't just character flaws; they're her armor, honed through years of survival in a brutal world. What I loved most about her journey in this first book was watching her navigate a world where everyone has an agenda. She's constantly underestimated, and yet, she turns that into her greatest weapon. It’s not just about her physical prowess, but her mental agility and cunning. She's not just trying to win a competition; she's fighting for her very soul, trying to hold onto the last vestiges of who she was before Arobynn Hamel twisted her life. This internal battle is what truly defines her character development, making her more than just a beautiful, skilled killer. She's a survivor with a deeply buried heart. Speaking of hearts, I totally agree with the sentiment about "i loved Celaena and Chaol's pov." Their dynamic is just chef's kiss in this first installment! The tension, the slow-burn attraction, and the way they challenge each other are so well-written. Chaol sees glimpses of the real Celaena beneath the assassin's facade, and his confusion and protectiveness add so many layers to the story. Their interactions are crucial because they force Celaena to confront parts of herself she’d rather keep hidden, and they slowly start to chip away at the walls she's built. You can really feel the push and pull, and it makes you wonder what kind of future, if any, they could possibly have together. This emotional depth is what makes the series truly shine, far beyond just the fantasy elements. And oh my goodness, "i can't WAIT to get my hands on Crown Of Midnight!" The ending of "Throne of Glass" definitely leaves you craving more! Knowing that Celaena's journey is just beginning, and that there are so many more layers to uncover about her past and her destiny, is incredibly exciting. While this first book introduces us to her and sets the stage, the whispers of ancient magic and larger conflicts are just starting to surface. Queries like "when does Celaena meet Rowan chapter" hint at how much her world expands beyond the castle walls, and believe me, it gets even more intense and epic! Her strength isn't just about winning duels; it's about enduring, adapting, and finding allies in unexpected places. She truly embodies the idea that "you could rattle the stars" with enough conviction and fight within you. Ultimately, "Throne of Glass" is more than just a fantasy novel for me; it's a powerful exploration of resilience, identity, and the extraordinary strength found in vulnerability. Celaena might be a flawed heroine, but her journey is one I'm completely invested in, and I think any reader looking for a complex female lead will find themselves rooting for her, just like I do.
