Loc Extensions ✨
I added loc extensions to my hair (and ran out of hair) so the progress has to be paused until I can buy some more hair. It’s Exy Hair Afro Kinky 20” in color 1B.
I finished these roughly two weeks ago and this is the progress. I’m going to assume the bunching is normal and expected and to stretch the loc out to prevent it from malforminng locs. I’ll keep you updated. #locextensions #microlocs
Hey everyone! So glad you're following my loc extensions journey. While I opted for 20-inch extensions to get that dramatic length, I know a lot of you out there might be wondering about shorter options, especially if you have really short natural hair. I've been doing some research and talking to friends who've gone the 8-inch route, and let me tell you, there are some fantastic reasons to consider it! Why Go for 8-Inch Loc Extensions on Short Hair? For starters, 8-inch loc extensions offer such a natural and effortless look. If you're aiming for a style that feels like your own hair but with added volume, body, or just a head start on your loc journey, this length is perfect. One big advantage is the weight – shorter locs are significantly lighter than longer ones. This means less tension on your scalp, which is a huge plus, especially during those first few weeks when your scalp is adjusting. Another thing I've heard is how much easier they are to manage. Imagine wash days, drying time, and even just simple styling – all much quicker with 8-inch locs compared to my longer ones! They blend beautifully with shorter natural hair, making the transition look seamless faster. You won't have that super long 'new growth' stage that can sometimes feel a bit awkward with really long extensions. Tips for Rocking Your 8-Inch Loc Extensions: Consultation is Key: Before anything, chat with your loctician. Discuss your natural hair length, texture, and the look you're going for. They can help you determine if 8-inch is the ideal starting point for you. Quality of Hair Still Matters: Just like my 20-inch extensions, the quality of the hair for your 8-inch locs is crucial. Look for good quality Afro Kinky hair that matches your texture for the best blend and longevity. Even though they're shorter, you want them to last! Gentle Installation: Ensure your loctician uses a method that's gentle on your short natural hair. Tension-free installation is super important to prevent thinning or damage. Embrace the Journey: Even with shorter extensions, you might experience some initial stiffness or 'bunching' like I did. This is often part of the locking process as your natural hair intertwines with the extensions. Don't panic! Gentle palm rolling and separating can help keep them neat. Moisture, Moisture, Moisture: Shorter locs still need love! Keep them moisturized with light oils and rosewater sprays. This helps prevent dryness and breakage, keeping your locs healthy as they mature. Styling Versatility: Don't think shorter means fewer styles! 8-inch locs can be styled in cute updos, half-up styles, or simply worn down for a chic, natural vibe. Headbands and scarves become your best friends for quick glam-ups! I'm still learning with my 20-inch set, but knowing these details about 8-inch options makes me appreciate the diversity in the loc community. Whether you go short or long, the journey is truly personal and rewarding. Keep an eye out for my next update – can't wait to show you more progress!
