Snow storm ready
Won’t be without good food, snacks and my @Starbucks Green Tea! I have enough for the next 3 days! #LetItSnow #11inchesofsnow #fyp #lemon8creator
Seeing those snow warnings pop up always gets me thinking about being prepared! While my initial go-to is definitely stocking up on my favorite snacks and a good supply of Starbucks Green Tea, just like in the original post, I've learned over the years that true snow storm preparedness goes a little deeper than just delicious treats. For anyone looking to create their own winter storm home preparation checklist, I wanted to share a few more essentials I always make sure to have on hand. First off, beyond the yummy stuff, water is absolutely non-negotiable. It’s easy to overlook when you’re thinking about food, but having enough potable water for at least three days (a gallon per person per day) is crucial, especially if you lose power or your pipes freeze. I usually fill a few clean containers and keep some bottled water just in case. Next, let's talk about power outages. They're almost inevitable with heavy snow! My absolute must-haves are fully charged power banks for phones, plenty of fresh batteries for flashlights and my trusty battery-powered radio. Candles can be nice for ambiance but always be super careful with them. I also make sure to have extra blankets and warm clothing accessible, even if I usually keep them packed away. Learning from past experiences, having a way to stay warm without electricity is a game-changer. Think about communication and safety. Always charge your phone fully before the storm hits, and know your emergency contacts by heart, or write them down somewhere accessible. A basic first-aid kit stocked with pain relievers, bandages, and any prescription medications you or your family need is another key item on my essentials list. Nobody wants to be scrambling for medicine when the roads are impassable. And for those with pets, don't forget their needs! Extra food, water, and any medications they might require. It's just as important to keep them comfortable and safe. Finally, consider entertainment options that don't rely on electricity. Books, board games, or even just a deck of cards can make those long hours without power enjoyable instead of boring. It’s a great chance to unplug and reconnect. Before a storm, I also run through a quick home checklist: Car fuel: Make sure your car has enough fuel, not just for potential emergency drives, but also to warm up the car occasionally (safely, in a well-ventilated area, of course). Shovel ready: Is your snow shovel easily accessible, not buried under a pile of stuff in the garage? Prevent frozen pipes: I always let faucets drip slightly and open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warmer air to circulate. Generator safety: If you have one, ensure it's in good working order and you know how to operate it safely outside your home. Getting everything organized before the first snowflake falls really takes the stress out of a snow storm. It’s about being proactive so you can truly relax and enjoy the cozy side of winter, perhaps with some hot cocoa or, in my case, that beloved Starbucks Green Tea! What other essentials do you swear by?
