Carat weight isn’t always king (or in our case, queen 💅🏼) — at the end of the day, the overall look of a diamond has so many unique influences which is why I always review diamonds in person when selecting for clients! 💕💍✨ #diamond #diamonds #asscher #engagementring #uniqueengagementrings
When choosing a diamond, I've realized that many people focus exclusively on carat weight, thinking bigger means better. But from my experience, what truly makes a diamond stand out is how it’s cut and its proportions. For example, two diamonds with the same carat weight can look very different because one might have more weight concentrated in the bottom, making it deeper but less visible from above, while the other could be spread out and shallower, offering a larger face-up appearance. I once helped a client choose between two Asscher cut diamonds with identical carat weights. One diamond had a phenomenal cut with ideal depth and measurements, reflecting light beautifully and giving it more brilliance. The other diamond was 'spready' with less depth, which sometimes isn’t ideal because it can affect light performance and sparkle negatively. This experience taught me the importance of considering “visual carat weight,” which accounts for how a diamond’s cut affects its visible size, rather than just the numerical carat. Also, seeing diamonds in person allows you to notice subtle differences in cut quality and brilliance that photos or specifications often miss. So if you’re shopping for a diamond, don’t just chase carat weight. Take time to review the cut, depth, and proportions, and if possible, look at the diamond in natural light. The right balance will ensure your diamond looks stunning and feels truly special on your finger.
