Summer is coming up, and for some, they’re dreading the beach days, the bikinis, the shorts, the dresses. Some are not ready for the social activities, the cookouts, the bbq’s.
I have spent many summers dreading. And I’m over it. No one is looking at your acne. No one is looking at the way you look in the bikini and if they are LET THEM. It can be hard to let it go, trust me I know. But the more time you spend worrying about what other people think, what other people see, and what other people look like, the less you have time you have to enjoy. Unfollow the people who make you feel like you should look like them. Unfollow the people whose life you’re jealous of. Unfollow anyone who makes you feel less than. Social media is a highlight reel. However, it is important to recognize that social media often presents an unrealistic portrayal of life, leading to unnecessary comparisons and self-doubt. To truly enjoy the summer, focus on what makes you happy rather than what others think. Here are four key things to let go of:
1. **Body Negativity**: Whether it's acne, cellulite, or body shape, remember that everyone has insecurities. Embrace your body and wear that bikini with confidence. Your worth is not defined by how you look, but by how you feel about yourself.
2. **Social Comparison**: Unfollow accounts that make you feel inadequate. Surround yourself with positivity, focusing on what inspires you rather than what makes you feel less than. This will free up mental space to enjoy your summer.
3. **Fear of Missing Out**: Don't let the fear of not fitting in hold you back from making memories. Go on that trip, have fun with friends, and just be present. Life is about creating joyful experiences, not worrying about appearances.
4. **Perfectionism**: Let go of the need to be perfect. Enjoy your moments, laugh, love, and cherish friendships without the weight of perfectionism on your shoulders. Each day is an opportunity to live fully, so embrace it.
Let this summer be a time to be yourself, have fun, and live life unapologetically. Remember, you truly are enough!
