💭 I’m not quite sure why everyone hates on this book so badly. It’s a spicy sports romance. It’s exactly what I expect of a sports romance based on a college age. Angsty AF. TBH, it’s actually written better than some others I’ve read. It really kept my attention well, and for its flow, it moves really well. It’s about 3.5 on the spicy meter, BTW. I debated rounding it up to 4 just on the amount of spicy scenes, language, vs the length of the book. Ultimately, I decided to leave it at a 3. Just be aware it’s one I consider upping to a 4, which says something, lol. The romance between them was cute. I enjoyed their dynamic. I will say the drama surrounding this book is honestly ridiculous. Firstly, you can tell RIGHT off the bat this book is an adult book. So the fact anyone claiming they didn’t know is completely bs. As for kids getting their hands on this. Oh they know all too well too. It’s obvious AF, and they are just sneaky AF. I’m sorry as a parent I call bs, they know. Everyone knows. Most kids flip through their books before they buy them. It’s like peeking at a present. They can’t help it. Anyways, there are a few more sensitive topics discussed, so checking TWs wouldn’t hurt if you’re someone who tends to get triggered.

💬 This contemporary romance is book 1 in the Maple Hill series. The romance in this book is a frienemies-to-lovers. The book is spicy, and all the spice is open door. The book has quite a bit of overall spicy themes as well. Anastasia needs to get ready for her performance, and Nate’s hockey team messed that all up. With having to share the ice, dealing with the repercussions of Nate’s choices, and charms, Anastasia slowly develops feelings she’s been fighting. Adjusting to the new situation may be a problem for her skating partner though. This was a cute, but delightfully steamy

... Read moreHey bookworms! Building on my initial thoughts about 'Icebreaker' by Hannah Grace, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into some aspects that I know many of you are curious about, especially since this book generates so much discussion online. If you’re looking for a comprehensive breakdown, you’re in the right place! First off, let’s talk about that spice level. My initial rating of 3.5, almost 4, truly reflects the amount of steam packed into these pages. For those wondering, yes, it’s definitely open-door, and Hannah Grace doesn't shy away from detailing the intimate moments between Anastasia and Nate. It’s the kind of spice that feels organic to their developing relationship, enhancing their chemistry rather than just being gratuitous. If you love a romance that brings the heat and isn't afraid to show it, you'll likely find ‘Icebreaker’ to be quite satisfying. It’s a good benchmark for contemporary adult romance in terms of explicit content. Beyond the steam, the 'hockey romance aesthetic' is a huge draw, and it’s executed beautifully here. From the competitive university setting to the intense training schedules and locker room banter, the world of collegiate sports feels authentic. Nate fits the classic, often grumpy, hockey player archetype perfectly, while Anastasia, the figure skater, brings her own disciplined world into the mix. This clash of worlds, combined with the 'frenemies-to-lovers' trope, creates such a delicious tension. Their initial animosity and forced proximity on the ice pave the way for a slow-burn connection that truly blossoms. It’s not just about the game; it's how the high-stakes environment of competitive athletics shapes their personalities and complicates their budding romance. The angsty elements come alive through their personal struggles and the challenges of their shared environment. Now, about the 'drama surrounding this book' that seems to perpetually swirl online. I’ve seen the discussions about character ages and content, and I stand by my original assessment: this is unequivocally an adult book. The themes, emotional depth, and explicit nature are all geared towards mature readers. It seems some of the online 'hate' stems from misaligned expectations, or perhaps a preference for less angsty or explicit content. For me, the angst and the raw emotions of college-age characters navigating complex relationships were part of what made it so engaging. It felt real and relatable to that specific life stage. And let's not forget the visual aspect! The book's aesthetic extends to its cover. Looking at the detailed description, the light colors, grey snowflakes, and orange stars perfectly capture the wintery, athletic vibe, subtly hinting at the 'icebreaker' theme. It's a cohesive package that draws you into the world of Maple Hills, making it not just a good read, but also a pretty addition to your bookshelf, perhaps next to a cozy candle for your reading sessions. It really helps set the mood for a frosty, yet fiery, romance. Finally, a quick note on sensitive topics: as with any book, if you have specific triggers, it's always wise to check a reliable source for trigger warnings beforehand. While I won't list them all here to avoid spoilers, 'Icebreaker' does touch on themes common in college life and competitive sports that can be intense for some readers. Being prepared can help you fully immerse yourself in Anastasia and Nate's journey. Overall, if you’re searching for a captivating, spicy hockey romance with a fantastic frenemies-to-lovers dynamic and a strong academia backdrop, give 'Icebreaker' a try. It’s a truly addictive read that I think many of you will enjoy!
