💭Did the book description sound good? Yes. Did I expect to love this book the way I did? Yes and no. I had that *feeling*… I know that sounds crazy, but the cover and book description really gave off the right type of vibes for me. So did I expect it? No, but also I had a feeling, so yes. This book absolutely didn’t disappoint. Even as a dual narration, it is so good. I admit I do love a duet, and the books done in that style just read smoother. It tends to make getting lost and emotionally invested easier in this book. That wasn’t a problem at all with this book. So for a book to be this good as a dual narration? That says a lot. The amazing writing combined with the amazing narration blew me away. This book is angsty, and the narration puts so much emotion into their voices. I just wow. This mafia romance is dark, and yeah, you need to check your TWs, but it’s not super dark. It’s what you would expect, tbh. It has the rival mafias and the whole opposites attract thing going on. But for me, the biggest hook was Luca. The way he loved her, even when he didn’t know how or thought he deserved her. It just was a lot. The book is also spicy, but not overly so. The spice also tends to add to the emotion in the book. I feel like I keep pointing out how emotional this book is, but for real, this book is super emotional and *chef’s kiss*. I am looking forward to the next book in the series and definitely recommend this book to all angsty mafia romance lovers.
💬 This contemporary romance is book 1 of The Heirs of the Organized series. This book does have darker themes and scenes. The romance in this book is a forbidden romance. This book is spicy with open door spicy scenes. Gráinne has been sent to find a husband by her father who is the Irish mafia leader. Luca belongs to the Italian mafia and is one her father’s recommended husband potentials. Luca is a dangerous enforcer, but when he’s with her, he is someone else. She was supposed to spy and not fall in love. It was going to be easy. Until she met Luca.

Okay, so you've seen my initial thoughts on Weaponized by Kelly Kilburn, but let's dive a little deeper into why this audiobook absolutely captivated me and why I think you should give it a listen, especially if you're like me and crave a truly immersive reading experience. First off, the whole 'He Falls First' trope in a mafia setting? Chef's kiss! Luca, our dangerous enforcer, is utterly swoon-worthy in how he dedicates himself to Gráinne. Their forbidden romance isn't just about rival families; it’s about the intense emotional pull between two people who know they shouldn't be together, yet can't resist. Gráinne's loyalty to her Irish mafia father clashes constantly with her growing feelings for Luca, who belongs to the Italian mafia. This tension creates such a compelling dynamic – you're constantly on edge, wondering how they'll navigate their treacherous world. The spy element adds another layer of intrigue; she was sent to observe, not to fall head over heels, and that internal conflict is palpable. The 'spicy' level, as I mentioned, is definitely there, but it's not gratuitous. The intimate scenes genuinely enhance the emotional connection and the raw vulnerability between Luca and Gráinne, making their relationship feel incredibly real and impactful. It’s dark romance, yes, with themes that require checking trigger warnings, but it’s more about the intense emotional landscape and high stakes rather than overly explicit or graphic content for shock value. It’s the kind of dark romance that makes your heart ache and cheer all at once. And since we're talking audiobooks, let me tell you, the dual narration for Weaponized was a game-changer. The narrators perfectly embodied Luca and Gráinne, bringing so much emotion to their voices that I felt every ounce of their angst and passion. It made getting lost in 'The Heirs of the Organized' series so easy. I even noticed the cover art on my tablet while listening – those beautiful purple flowers and the Celtic knot heart pendant really set the mood for this Irish-Italian mafia saga, hinting at both beauty and intricate ties. For those of you who appreciate Kelly Kilburn's writing, Weaponized is a prime example of her ability to craft complex characters and intricate plots within the dark romance genre. If you enjoyed the intensity and emotional depth of this book, you might also want to explore her other works. I've heard great things about *Scandalized*, another one of her popular titles, which often comes up in discussions among her fans. It seems to share that same captivating blend of passion and danger that makes her books so addicting. While I haven't read Scandalized yet myself, I'm definitely adding it to my TBR list, hoping for another dose of that unique Kilburn magic after finishing this first book in the series. It’s clear she has a knack for creating worlds where love and peril intertwine, leaving you breathless.
